Dubbs,
The vehicle does lock, ever tried to get back in your car when the door has latched
I checked this when I first used it years ago, the top gate button does not work, the lower one does but it is still connected to the top Tail gate, so there is still no way into the vehicle other than attacking the ventlock, which is noisy, time consuming and unless they are 5" slim no way in.
It's more that if you can have the lower tailgate flapping around it's easier to grab stuff from the boot as you make a larger, flexible aperture. Also not so great for those with dogs that aren't in a cage but using a vent lock.
See your point though, the top latch is still "locked"MY15 DIY Black Pack (Better than factory and half the price!)

Tell me more on a PM then please as I've looked at it and thought it to be reasonably secure without having o make a hell of a lot of noise and be obviously breaking in.

Robbie I would also appreciate your advice by PM as I regularly use my Ventlock throughout the year - thanks in advance.

I'm being a complete idiot I know but as a new Discovery owner I've just found out that you can't lock the car with either the top or bottom parts of the tailgate open. Having read the above posts, and dug out an old Ventlock, I'm still not sure what to do. Terrified of upsetting the car, locks and alarms. I have a Discovery 4. Can anyone tell me what to do in VERY simple English please.

Do they definitely do a version for Discovery 4? I've not been able to contact them yet.

Surprisingly simple modification to make a standard ventlock fit all Discoveries here http://www.disco4.com/forum/post1500231.html#1500231.
