Stronger tailgate struts?

Hi Guys,

My tailgate struts were always fine, perhaps feeling a bit weak, however now I've got the ProSpeed ladder on there I either need to get it a little blue pill or some better struts.

Can I just replace with new OEM struts, or are there some uprated ones available?
Also will I have any problems replacing them, horror stories of dropped nuts from loose struts scare me.

All help very much appreciated.

Alex

These guys can make them to any spec you want and often way cheaper than origin fit.

http://www.sgs-engineering.com/gas-struts

They made me a couple for the rear steps on D2, worked perfectly and with the delivery the 2 cost less than one from Landrover

If you give them the spec of the old one(they can work it out from the numbers on them) and tell them that you want a bit more they can do it.

Just remember it will put more stress on the mounts and of you ever take the ladder off it could be like a catapult Rolling with laughter

I got mine from them - I went for 520N units - standard are 485 - possibly a little too much gas, but even now its gone colder, they still have plenty of spring Thumbs Up

+1 for SGS 520 struts! Got a prospeed latter fitted. Sorted out my droopy back end no problem!

Great service too. Took 5 mins to replace.

Cheers

I went for 500 - opens just fine, even in the cold weather with an OEM ladder fitted.

Finally got around to swapping in the uprated struts from SGS Engineering, over the weekend.

Shocked better hang on to the old ones in case I ever sell the ladder

The upper tailgate pops up no bother now ......... its got its spunk back Whistle

Easy to do

I had the same problem when I added my ladder it couldn't hold its self up. I bought my ladder powerful.co.uk and it is quite heavy. I bought my new struts off the bay, think they where about £12 and there fab, boot now goes up on its own and fast. Took a while to get use to I kept forgetting to move out of the way before it took my head off Rolling with laughter .That was a year ago and still just as good as they day I fitted them Thumbs Up

Went here; http://www.sgs-engineering.com/car-boot-ta...boot-strut

Then rang 01332 576 850 and spoke to Thomas - ordered the 500N struts and out they came in the post in a couple of days. Great service from them it has to be said.

Edit: I rang rather than ordered off the site to be sure to be sure

Bit fiddly fitting them but a couple of loud shouty Censored Censored and I was alright Thumbs Up
