Safe chip tuning for my tdv6? Are they worth it? |
|
I know there are many tuners out ther offering remaps and that they have been discussed here on the forum and all but I live a bit far away from any LandRover tuner..they just dont exist here.
What can I do? I really like the idea of upgrading my ECU but in a safe way, nothing too drastic.
I wouldnt like to go around tuners asking one by one.
ANY suggestions on what I should do? "Dude don't even worry. The water is only about a foot deep."

Get in touch with Pete at BAS and ask about his "remap in a box" - he can courier it over to you.

PM Pete at BAS (site sponsor). He can sent out a box to read your ecu then you email the settings and get a new map emailed back to load on to your d3. I have seen him say that he will post them anywhere in world.
Pete remaps to safe reliable settings so no damage should occur.
my d3 goes like a scolded cat now.

+1 for the BAS remap. Arrives in the post. Really easy to install. D3 much nicer to drive afterwards. As Pete at BAS will tell you, he could remap to produce even more power but won't as it may damage the engine and the map he sends you is what he uses on his own vehicle hence is not about to blow it up. After sales support is outstanding too!

To clarify to DominicanDisco3 and to save any confustion.
grxesiul's reference is to the "plug in" boxes that are sold as chips and many are produced by PSI or simlar companys which only fool the common rail sensor of the car which are not good for the pumps, injectors etc on D3 in honesty.
This very much differs from the BAS remap interface which is basicly a single car version of my OBD programmer which is a real remap changing the software inside the ECU and replacing it for BAS software leaving no extra hardware attached to your car, which is perfect for dealer visits as you can and should return your car to standard before any are made.
The BAS mapping has many times from other tuners tried to be copied replicated and beaten but they simply cant match the man hrs and developemet time ive spent to get the full understanding of the 2.7l and 3.6L Siemens system, and in most cases only end up selling a remap that in reality does no more than a external plug in common rail fooling box would which is not good
We have up to now spent over 1000hrs on the dyno testing the TDV6 2.7L engine in the D3 and my RRS, i have now just orderd for collection next week a 2007 D3 to complement the other 2 D3 developement cars i have for some finalination and testing needed for the EGR off soloution on the EU4 cars which are now coming out of warranty and are having EGR failures. This just alone does show the extent we are willing to go to just to understand the systems and master them to produce the results we desire.
Its just a shame ive got to do this all again with the D4 3.0L which i think up to now has had over 600hrs just disasembeling the code in the new Bosch system and we havent even got to the dyno yet
DominicanDisco3, give me a email or PM or even a call in the office if you need to know any more info.
Best regards Pete

If i had a pound for every time i was asked that lol.
Seriousley though, i wont do as some other companys do which is to guarantee a 10% 20% etc gain on economy as there are far to many things to take into consideration while making such calcualtions, so such bold statements can not be made with my understanding of the system because they could misslead to what in some cases is not possibile.
However what i can say is that given normal use along the ECO tune which produces ever so slightly less power than my normal tune poeple have reported a gain so its not all bad
I have 2x D3 manuals and just sold a Auto RRS all 2.7 versions, in honesty all 3 cars use the extra power most of the time and the economy is still arround the same as it was before tuning with the execption of the wifes D3 which weirdley given the way she drives is better than the other 2
So to sumerise, i would go to the extent to say you should not loose and driven correctly you may gain as others have.
Pete
