Near side rear wheel squeaking
After driving for a short period of time, my Disco 3 develops a low speed squeak in time with one wheel revolution. This squeak seems to stop at around 30mph. Stopping and putting the EPB on, doesn't make a difference or so it seems.
I suspect it's the EPB that's squeaking, as whilst I was on holiday I had to have a independant garage look at it because it had developed a different noise. They told me that the clips were broken and my back plates were shot and dropping rust into the brake.
I'm all riled up to rebuild the rear brakes and EPB, my plan is to disassemble both rear wheels, remove what material needs removing before rust converting then painting the back plates, then reassemble with new news, discs and pads.
But I'm wondering if I've jumped the gun and there's a simpler solution?

It could be the shims that the brake pads fit into, and it may even be the fronts doing it.... The thin metal gets stretched over time and can move a little and just touch the disc a fraction causing the squeak. Mine does this often. With the wheel off the ground, chocked and in neutral, rotate and you will hear it. Sometimes just a clean up of the caliper bracket will fix it, otherwise renew the shims. (They usually come with new pads). The rear handbrake shoes also eat the retaining pins and clips, these disintegrate and end up rattling around the drum causing a racket. Simple fix with a fitting kit, but they are a pain to fit.

If you look closely at the fallen shoe clip you can see the "polished" spot where the clip was coming into contact with the inner surface of the hand brake drum. This was causing an intermittent squeak, but you as you can see from the rust and general condition the rest of this hub was about to fall apart anyway. So a complete rebuild and renewal of all parts was required.... including the back plates yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

The back plates are just dust/mud shields, look closely at them and you will see the section that the epb shoes fit to is made of much thicker steel than the rest of the shield, so when it is stripped down and using the power tool of your choice remove the thin rotten sections and carry on as before.
