Electronic Park Brake Questions |
|
Hi all,
when I collected the 09 D3 a couple of days ago from the dealer, I was told the EPB engages automatically when you put the gearbox into P. It will release automatically when you go into D or R they said. Is this correct??
When I put the lever into P the sign for the EPB does not light up. It only does when I engage the brake manually with the switch.

Did you buy from Stratstones....
In a MANUAL, it will apply automatically, in an AUTO, when you put it in Park, it will hold the car in place, but best to also use the EPB esp if on a hill etc.
I always use the EPB on my Auto and it will Auto RELEASE but not Auto Apply Bodsys Brake Bible

AFAIK, it only engages automatically on the manual not the auto, mine's auto and the EPB doesn't engage automatically I'm not as good as I once was........but I'm as good once as I ever was.

Thanks guys, this is important information
I had a look into the owners manual and there is no word of the EPB applying automatically as well.
So it's auto release but not auto apply (on an AUTO).
So it seems the dealer told me rubbish...
OR everything has changed on the 09MY but I doubt that.

All Automatics are only auto release
All manuals are auto on with key out the ignition, and only from 07MY onwards are auto release

Occasionally, very occasionally, you can also hear the EPB re-tightening when you take the key out of the ignition. It only does this if you've used the switch to set it on in the first place though. Dr. Ian Malcolm:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
