Rear LED
Always been a bit concerned about how often the rear brake bulbs blow, so have upgraded the rear Stop/Tail, Reverse & Indicators with the 92 LED's form HIDS4U . This is halfway through fitting them, got a few pictures but only the tail lights one shows up the difference in the picture, in real life there is an improvement on all of them.
The Stop/Tail now fills up a greater area with a more fuller red and brighter too, reverse light is much whiter/brighter (as expected of LED's). Will try and get some better pictures (including at night) but really pleased with them.
I am even impressed with the look of them when they are not even on !, they look much more purposeful than the old ones.

Hi,
The code is for a 15% discount that Ian @ HIDS4U offered site members, yes you need 2 pairs so they match although you will not use the brake light part of the lower ones..... unless you get it wired up like some members have done !, which may be my next job !.

Yes, you need 2 pairs of the red stop/tail lights and 1 pair for the reverse lights.
You may want to consider the amber ones for the indicators while you are at it, when I compared old/new in daylight the difference between them was not as great as the other lights. However they do come on/off instantly where as the old bulbs fade in/out.
I will try and get some pictures at night and pos them.

Dave

Re LED rear globes
[size=18][color=black]Hi Davro, tried to order rear LED globes from HIDS4U....but the nice sales girl said they did not have a listing for globes for D3. ????
A couple of queries.
What part numbers did you order....Did you use plain globes for the Indicator, as their indicator globes appear to have offset pin.
Do the globes fit through the space that the original globes go through?
IE. Do I just plug them into existing sockets?
I'm keen to change them as I don't want to be stuck anywhere remote.....I live 1650k's from the nearest traffic light or Land Rover service option. (outback Australia)
Thanks for any info, regards, Vbrab

Davro, can you put a link up for these? I don't want to order the wrong ones.
Thanks

They all fit the standard bulb holders and fit through the openings.
For the indicators I got the Amber ones, I may have a play tomorrow and see what the white reversing lights look like in the indicators.
What I had not appreciated was that in both the links above, there is a white reversing light version, I am not really sure which ones I have or what the difference really is on both white versions. I will pm Hids4u on that.
EDIT: .... I guess thinking about it I must have the indicator version as the white version of the stop/tail would have the offset pin
Also, the indicators need the resistors fitted to stop the dashboard indicator light/sound working at double speed (although the indicators still flasj at normal speed).
TBH, the indicator is the one that I noticed the least improvement on in comparison to the originals, although they do come on/off in an instant.

Re rear globes on D3
Still trying to nut out what the various tail light globes/lenses on the D3 are for, can anybody explain/clarify for me?
I have a top globe that is 21w/5w off set pin (which is stop and tail), below that is the indicator (21w ) straight pin, below that another 21/5w with off set pin (but which appears to only act as a 5w tail light (the 21w brake light does not operate)?? Is it a problem with my car?
Below that a 21w straight at all.
It may be that in UK/ Europe they use different globes/lenses and in Australia we use less and the cars are set up to cover different regulations in each country.
Does anybody know if the D3 ever uses the other globes (bottom lamp and the second "brake" filament)?
All I want to do is change the brake lights to LEDS to aviod a "failure to proceed" caused by lack of brake globes. regards vbrab

The lower stop/tail lamp is wired as tail light only, this is normal.
I don't know why they used two of the same type bulb, maybe the cost is such that it's simpler to use 2 of the same type, but it does mean that there's a spare in case the stop lamp in the upper one fails.
Unfortunately, because of the pin configuration, it also means you need to double-up on the LED stop/tail ones to keep all the lights on correctly and the LED stop/tail lamps are quite a bit more costly that the single ones, that's one of the reasons I'm changing my rear lamp clusters to the later D3 LED types.Clive
