Hi Guys
We've just pulled out of a Discovery 4 purchase from a dealer because the previous owner was a accident repair company. This was a HSE TDV6, I noticed in the showroom a disco 4 badged as a HSE SDV6... I asked the sales man what the difference was and he just shrugged his shoulders and diverted the conversation.
Can anyone enlighten me?

As I understand it; 245bhp models are badged as SDV6, the TDV6 indicates it has 211bhp - both have same 3l engine but in different states of tune

Up until 11MY both power levels were badged TDV6, from 11MY onwards LR in their wisdom decided to completely confuse the second hand market and call the higher HP versions SDV6 rather that waiting until 12MY and changing it when it'd make more sense along with revisions to the engines and increases in output
So T3Jn, the answer is they're probably both the same and the one badged TDV6 is older than the one badged SDV6
If shrugging his shoulders is the salesman's response suggest you buy one elsewhere The End

I think LR are confusing themselves as well... the brochure for my car says it's an SDV6 LE fitted with the 3.0 litre TDV6 engine!

2010MY badges:
TDV6 - The same engine as used in D3. This was only fitted in the D4 commercial.
3.0 TDV6 - This is the 245BHP 3.0TDV6
2011MY badges:
TDV6 - 211BHP 3.0TDV6. Only fitted to D4 commercials.
SDV6 - 245 BHP 3.0TDV6.

2010my cars were fitted with 211bhp engines badged TDV6, not just the commercials.

If its a HSE model then all D4 HSE's had the higher power 3.0ltr engine (can't remember the exact power but around 245bhp, NOT the 210'ish version!)

OK - got a response from our new dealer. The SDV6 models have some new diesel filter on them to reduce emissions; this filter causes a reduction of power, so they tuned the engine to compensate. Apparently the net performance is the same... but then he was trying to sell me the model with less HP!

One less filter to change come service time I guess !!! Disco 3 TDV6 SE, black, de-badged, blacked out windows, cream leather interior, never seen a dirt track in its life.

Just to add to the confusion, the V5 on my MY11 HSE says TDV6 and the badge on the back is SDV6. I checked it at the time and the DVLA didn't recognise the SDV6 designation. Doing my insurance renewal this year, I see that they do now ! 2010 MX-5 2.0 Sport Tech PRHT

I think is just a spelling mistake! Either that, or someone wasn't listening at the last meeting and ordered 200'000 S's instead of T's...

Mine is a TDV6 according to the V5, but is badged SDV6, Sept 2010 model.
I thought the SDV6 had the DPF filter fitted

Wasn't it also fitted to some (in very small quantities) GS base models also, in UK and elsewhere in Europe?....

Mine's badged and labeled SD as is the V5 but in May when I got it all the insurance search engines kept trying to label it a TD.
Not wanting to leave any loopholes in case the worst happened phoned and queried why they kept trying to call it a TD only to be told they didn't insure SD's ????????????. Eventually got them to reconsider and they blamed their underwriters but after the best part of an hour addmitted they would insure it but it would cost xx£'s more.  thieves.
