Did anybody read the part in Yamaha-fans explanation Recommended for deisel engines with no dpf , I assume dpf is deisel particulate filter, which d3s have fitted..

So should it be used, ?

Just playing devils advocate here so no flaming !

The use of 2-stroke oil is recommended also for diesel engines without DPF.

He says its recommended ALSO for engines without DPF, so should be fine for engines with.

My reckoning on this, is we are merely replacing the lubrication properties of the sulphur that has been removed from modern diesel fuel, also as stated earlier, by adding 2T to the diesel you are improving the cetane value of the fuel Thumbs Up

Don't forget diesel engines were originally designed to run on peanut oil Whistle

Reading his explanation , I read it as a not naturally English speaker had written it, so was more concerned that he may have meant cars without dpf are ok but implied that cars with we're not.

I'm all up for owt that lubes the fuel pump , cos diesel today is so thin it's horrid. I believe my man fudpucker is going to trial it for me and let me know how he gets on.

I'm pretty sure that cars WITHOUT the dpf are fine, but care has to be taken putting 2-stroke WITH a dpf because any resulting ash could clog it up.

I did read somewhere to use 1:400 for cars with DPF. ( not 1:200 )
I use for several month's 1:400 but my car has no DPF. (also no cat anymore, i have a de-cat)

It is fine WITH a DPF, as the 2T oil helps the diesel burn better, causing less soot deposits, in turn takes longer to fill the DPF Thumbs Up

Correct. I have just waded through the post on the FL2 site. The only thing suggested is that fully synthetic shouldn't be used, and 2T rated FB is fine for vehicles without dpf, FC for any (either mineral or semi-synthetic). Thumbs Up

Being a tight Yorkshireman I have been having a look about for the cheapest Whistle

Found this in my local indie spares shop at £3.60 litre or £18 for 5
http://www.granvilleoil.com/product_info.php?prod_id=338
says it is low ash but doesn't seem to specify much else on data sheet.

Anyone else tried it or is it just not up to spec ?
 Cheers Ian

Looking at the bottle's image, its JASO FB grade, as explained earlier on in the thread FC is better, just costs more Big Cry

I have been putting Comma FB grade oil through mine without issue and it is stated as low ash Thumbs Up

Yes perfectly suitable, buy 5ltrs while you can at that price.
Of course semi-synthetic f-c would be slightly better, but low ash is the main criteria.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
