Hi guys,
First post so bare with me.
I have searched through previous posts and there are lots of very good posts about wiring and fitting spot lamps. I am planning on mounting my original LR lamps from my disco 1 on to the grille of my D3 and wiring them to a switch in the cab.
However the bit I am struggling with is finding a switch that looks original and where to put it. I have noticed in some past posts/ topics people have talked about a 'LR No.2 Light Switch'. I had thought about trying to use the blank on the right hand side of the stereo and finding some aux switches to fit there but I can not seem to find any aux switches for a D3 that fit to the original dash. I know there is a switch in the wiring kit but I was not going to use this.
So I guess my question is where can I get one of these switches/ is there any other aux switches available? and Where is the best place to position the additional switch so that it looks original?
Thanks for any assistance you guys (& gals) can provide!!

The original LR switch goes into the blank part next to the instrument cluster (left from the steering wheel in a RHD car) and if you sit in the car I think it will be behind the steering wheel.
Cannot seem to find any pictures right now.

Hi Martin and Wiljo,
Thanks for the responses. I have a few other questions regarding the LR spot light wiring loom. Firstly do you have a part number? Secondly what is included in the kit (does it come with the switch and surround for the switch? and finally, the important part, price?
Thanks again and I will be putting some pictures up soon of the lamps fitted to the grille, as I will be attempting this over the weekend

lamps and wioring loom come as part of the same kit. unfortunatly you cant buy the wiring loom seperatly. I think the full kit is £300 ish !!
Alternativly, take a feed off the Main Beam wiring (Blue/Black wire) and run a trigger wire into the car via the unused clutch cable grommet behind the aux battery box.
In the D4 I fitted a couple of flush fitting switches to the trim in the footwell on the RHS of the centre console and wired up that way
on the D3 you can mount switches in the H-Trim around the radio etc, or in the light console in the headlining
where in Bristol are you - happy to show you and have cuppa if you want ? Duncan

From memory the standard LR switch switches the -ve not the +ve, and if you wire it the other way around the LED will not illuminate when turned on.

I have just fitted a pair of auxhilarylamps onto grandsons classic mini, used a relay connected to main beam so they only come on when main beam is on, no switch, tidying up after job I found a fitting diagram in the bottom of the box It also covered legal positions etc, including the statement 'these lamps must be fitted with a relay connected to the main beam and not operated independently by a switch that allows the lamps to be on when the main driving lamps are dipped, as this does not comply with MOT regulations'
Could you not connect into the fog light switch or wiring with a relay, I don't know if the fog lights go off when on dipped beam, shows how ofen I use them, IMHO I'd sell them and buy some xenon's It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Thanks Martin for the product number, I just wondered if you could buy the loom separate as have got some nice lamps
I have the old loom from the disco one with relays and everything so I might attempt trying to use that one?!!
When you buy the switch does it come with the bezel or do you cut the panel yourself?
Will hopefully be attempting this over the weekend

Hi,
Personally i wouldn't use the original loom form the D1, but that's my opinion What i would do is just buy all the relays and wire individuality , like me and my dad did when we fitted the spots on his D4. If you want i can find out where he got the bits for it

i dont have instructions but we just made a path for the wire. we took it from the drivers side light, then round and under the air intake. Then u will see a small gromit near the steering rack thing we put a small whole in that and pushed the wire through there. then from in the cab you have to look up under the drivers die foot well and take the lower bit of trim off. Then we threaded the wire above the steering rack and attached it to the plug witch we put on the end of the bit of trim, the bit that is right up against the door if that didn't make sense, i can take some pics for you some time in the next phew days

Hi dunc,
I am just outside Bristol off junction 19 M5. You?
I am going to order a switch tomorrow from the local dealer and then fit the lamps to my grille and then see about the wiring
