Bushing Questions

Hey Folks, I have determined that my front lower control arm bushing need replaced.

I'm going to do it myself, and post a how to back to the forum.

But I need a some help from ones who know.

1. Is any special tools needed? ( I have a hydraulic press)

2. Only need to remove lower balljoint nut, shock tower bolt, and the two control arm
bushing bolts.?

Any advice, or help would be great!

Thanks,
Mitchell

I went to the dealer and they allowed me to measure the tools for the install and removal of the bushings. Except for one broken tool that was sent back for replacement. They said they are having a terrible time changing the bushings out. They keep breaking that one tool.

I told him that I would share any information with them on when I change my bushings.

They had to order the bushings. $180.00[124.1996 EUR] for all four.... ( they want $630.00[434.6986 EUR] for two new control arms ) ( also part prices only, no labor price)

I took a cel pic of tools too.

Mitchell

gmfain,

you may find useful information in these threads:

http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic36239.html?highlight=

The front lower control arm bushings tend to wear out pretty quickly. My dealer installed complete new arms rather than trying to replace just the bushings. If you could post pictures of your replacement and describe the procedure it would help out Disco3.co.uk members - as others may attempt this. Good luck!

Thumbs Up

Thanks alot for a response. Also thank for assembling those links, I had searched for help on the problem. Most of what I found was dealer replaced. Dealer labor rates are of the scale...lol.... I want to do any labor that I can. I figure this is not electrical, and I can do it. Granted I'm a toolmaker, so I have access to a machine shop. But I will take pics and document my success or failure. But at least I will git it a go! ......

thanks,
Mitchell

Here is one reply I got from another Forrum.... It kinda what I thought, but have not confirmed it yet...

After getting it out and paying real close attention to the upper arms, I relized that both upper bushings were failing on the passenger side as well. (The lower rears solved the clunk). The upper control arm is only $90 complete so I just ordered the complete arm for that one. Should be in in a week and I'll take it apart for that one next.

Update:

I finished the bushing repair Saturday night. It was a success. No more clunking! Give me a few days to assemble all the data and pics..... I would like a volunteer or volunteers to proof read my procedures before I post them....

Thanks,
Mitchell

PS. kinda looks like I'm almost alone in this thread, Only 1 reply out of 331...LOL
