Mine's been on LPG since the first owner got it 13yrs, no oil system. At 110k miles I took both heads off (a couple of years ago now), because the valve clearances were right down, to check for VSR. But there was nothing obviously wrong. I'd expected to see serious valve seat damage and more, but no, just the need to reset the clearances. In reality I could have got away with just having the valve clearances adjusted.
Knowing just what is involved in the stripping even just for the heads, I don't envy you your task.

I had a coil fail on me so did the swapping around and reading the faults thing.
Eventually it was easy to diagnose but not helped by the fact that the coils and cylinders are numbered as described in this thread, no1 front LHS when viewed from the front of the engine and odd numbers on one bank and even on the other, BUT the LR manual numbers them as 1-4 on the left bank and 5-8 on the other.
Is this a euro crap thing or a US idea.Series 1 V8
Series 2 Hibrid V8
Discovery 3 HSE V8

Thanks bud Im glad I don't know exactly whats involved with getting to the heads although having rebuilt my p38 engine I have a feeling its a biggy. Interesting to hear your findings on the valves I hope I have some luck in that area.
Just have to get ready to spend some time on my hobby !!!

When to do get around to doing the work you'll need the following tools for dismantling and reassembling the head and setting the timing .
303-530 & 303-530-04, Camshaft setting / locking tool and shim.
303-532, Timing chain tensioning tool.
303-645, Crankshaft locking tool.
