No, although the manual says that, diagnostics read them odds left hand side from the front, so 1-7, 2-8.==================================

I have changed the round 1 and 2 with 3 and 4 if 1 is on the left closest to you when standing in front of the car looking at front seats.
Im going to run till fault and put diagnostics on it and report back.
Many thanks

I have turned her back on and plugged the diagnostics in. I can still feel a misfire and the engine management light came on with a bong. The diagnostics reported no faults in engine but scrolling through I found two faults in control module ( sorry if I should have looked here already but not that accustomed to the tool)
1 Low frequency coil
2 Passive start ignition relay coil circuit
Anything there ?

I have been searching around and it appears that these two codes are common and don't necessarily mean there is anything wrong. It could all hinge on the readout on misfires and whether they have moved. I have to say I fear the valves, this car (its getting sorted now) has not been well looked after in its recent past.

Ps thanks Mogwyth didn't see your post earlier..

The info display gave an engine fault so I plugged the diagnostic in.
Cyl. 1 Miss detect
Cyl. 2 Miss detect
Cyl. 8 Miss detect
Random missfire
Misfire detected with low fuel
Miss on start up first 1k
So Cyl. 7 misfire has gone after last move around but worryingly it hasn't appeared anywhere else ?
I'm going to do a compression test when I get back to the uk. I will keep this updated
Cheers Will

She is on 160 k it was a police one at some point so not sure if they did the gas conversion or if it was after they sold it. Dose plod run Lpg ? It's silver and don't think it was marked car as such when in police hands.

Hi Will W, Going right back to initial post :- You say you changed plugs. Did you have this misfire prior to changing plugs? I ask as I had issue here when I changed plugs. I had conversation with a "Champion" Engineer and he was telling me NOT to install std type plugs to the Jag 4.4 V8. ONLY Iridium plugs should be used as Std WILL cause misfire sooner or later. He told me he has experienced this problem even from new. Just a thought.Life always good with a Landy

Hello DiscoBob
I had them before changing plugs and did use a Iridium ones. I still haven't got around to comp test as I have been doing a fair bit to my p38.
Many thanks for that though, these things can sometimes come down to details like that.

If you still have the engine cover off - check the threeway cooling hose connector on top of thermostat area. This is made of a very bad plastic that disintegrates with heat. Mine came apart in my hand when I was checking hoses before a trip into Botswana. We do have a higher ambient temp than Sunny England but feel strongly that you change that fitting for a brass hydraulic one. From memory it is + / - 10mm diameter.
Best of luck Will, BobLife always good with a Landy

Thanks bud I have already changed mine to copper/brass but it' should come written in big letters on the dash ' check plastic thingy on top of your engine before you drive ' !!!!! Wtf were they thinking. As it happens it went on my dads one so I had a heads up , he obviously wasn't so lucky.

Hello all
Its taken an age as the Disco runs ok so there was no urgency to test but I have done the compression test at last.
Seeing as there is much debate about the numbering of the cylinders Im assuming 5 at front left when standing in front of the car looking back to cab and 1 on the right.
These two cylinders are giving 95 and 100 psi dry and wet 120 and 125 all others are at 125 dry.
Looks like it may be the piston rings on 1 and 5 but having looked around they may all be low.
I will keep updating this as I go but it will be a slow burner as Im not in a hurry to take the engine apart. I have a set of new coils coming this week so I will report back if there is any change to misfires etc.
Cheers

Just for information, the firing order for the 4.4 V8 is: 1 5 4 2 6 3 7 8 and NÂș 1 cylinder is at the front of Bank A (1) which is the right hand bank as viewed from the drivers seat.
Not good that you have probs with piston rings. Can't avoid a bottom end rebuild to sort it out.

Thanks for that info much appreciated.
It runs ok for now but asap I will take it apart and sort it, I work with a guy who was a mechanic for years so we will be in his workshop at some point fixing it with a bit of luck. Its done nearly 180k so not bad when its been on lpg with no lubricant for god knows how many years (I've owned for nearly 2). Saying that I bet the valves aren't too cleaver either.
