CTEK and towing electrics - how?

Hi all

As title really.

I've got the info regarding the wires to the plugs but was wondering how you guys that do, connect the charger to the cable coming from the toeing electrics on the car?

Don't want to cut the connection plug off the charger as I intend to use it on a leisure battery I have.

I'm probably bring thick but hey if unsure Ask Smile

Thanks

Mark

You need to make up a lead with a 7pin S plug on one end and a CTEK connector on the other. Get both on eBay for a few quid.

Keep the lead shortish (a metre or two is fine).

Thanks for the replies both. Thumbs Up

I'm still a bit confused though.

The car is about 5m from the house on my drive way. My plans are to run a lead (7 core towing electrics) with the 7 pin S plug connected to the car , wired to the correct pins as illustrated (thanks) into the house where the charger will be.

I then need to connect the lead from the car to the charger if you see what I mean. I would like to keep the charger in the house whilst connected to the car whilst I'm at work.

I have the lead in the ebay link. Does it matter how long the lead to the car is?

Just trying to think of the best way to keep the charger on the car without it being damaged by weather or stolen.

Thanks

Only that from experience the longer the lead from charger to car, the more voltage drop you'll get and the more likely it is that the charging electronics in the CTEK will struggle to detect battery state. If you have to use a long lead, make it a fat one...

Mark,
What about locking the charger in the car?

Can anyone tell me if I can wire my standard battery charger to charge through towing electrics. Don't really want to buy ctek charger yet, although it does look like a good piece of kit.

Charging via towing electrics will work with any charger up to about 10 - 15 amps or so, much beyond that you may risk frying the wiring or blowing a fuse.

Just need to be aware of the limitations if there's no trickle charge function on the charger though, you wouldn't want to cook the battery.

Thanks Martin, but is it not as simple as wiring leads from charger directly into plug using pins 3 and 4 as stated?
