I think I'm going to have to, I've left it with LR CRC who are going to get back to me, though I'm not holding out any hope, if they cannot better their offer I will need to find a way of getting the car back on the road. I have seen a lot of garages offering to exchange the engine at around 3K but I'm wary of them as I suspect I may end up with an engine with the same fault lurking around the corner.

The fact that the major service was about 1000 miles ago also bugs me, there has been no mention of an investigation, I don't know if based on this I have a right to expect a report on mode of failure and possible causes from LR, I suspect I can ask but would be billed for it.

I would say DM all the way, going to be way cheaper and a good job to boot.

I don't mean to stir but isn't there another thread on this subject where we're all assured JLR are aware there's a problem and will work to fix it ? I'm aware your vehicle is out of warranty but to me that shouldn't be an issue, considering they've already admitted that some of these vehicles are fundamentally flawed. These ever growing number of incidents cast a black cloud over what it's a tremendous vehicle. I just thought JLR were trying to improve they're reputation for reliability. Big Cry

I really want to make a song and dance about this, maybe even get the press on to it if I can get enough help from others with the same issue, LR are a huge organisation who have made the mistake and can shoulder the cost rather than pushing the consumers to financial ruin with huge bills to rectify something they should have recalled, it's only a matter of time before this happens to someone and causes a serious accident.

Sorry to read this tale of woe Sad

others from independent garages

This is likely to be the reason for the lower offer ...those with a 100% dealer service history record seem to stand a far better resolution potential.

I cannot agree, an 80% reduction for 2 services carried out by independents, for 1 of which there is a receipt from a Land Rover dealer for all the parts, the owner at the time only used the independent because of the problems he'd had with the dealer at the previous service.

I have personal experience of Land Rover main dealers charging extortionate amounts of money for quite frankly amateur standards of work, if there's a problem with engine like they've already admitted, I fail to see it matters who screws the filters on. I am the worlds biggest Land Rover fan but why can't they take it on the chin. My point would be if this issue only affects a small percentage of engines then why not pay out.

I suspect the issue is much bigger than JLR care to admit by virtue of the number of garages offering to fit reconditioned 3L engines for between 3 and 4K including labour, not that I'd try my luck with them.

Don't forget the vehicle is out of warranty and I appreciate you may not agree but that is how they make judgements on such issues. Whether a main dealer performs well or not, main dealer servicing will always be instrumental when considering claims outside of that warranty period.

If you can prove negligence from the last service then obviously that changes matters ...but up to now they have been the ones inspecting your engine. Keep pressing for sure, but I would imagine you would need independent expert evidence to prove otherwise.

Just out of interest do they actually have any form of defensive other than that's too bad. Sure we took your 60k but you didn't expect the vehicle to last longer than 110k did you. It seems such an easy way out of getting around a problem caused by the fact the engine has clearly not been assembled properly!

The vehicle is over 6 years old ...so even under the fullest extent of the statutes of limitations of consumer law you would be out of time and subject to goodwill only as far as LR are concerned. The only way out as I see it is to prove negligence at the last LR dealer service.

Yes I totally understand your point. However judging from your comments on this thread and previous ones I believe you share our opinion that this fundamental issue with the engine should be resolved by Land Rover not the customer. You clearly care greatly about land rovers reputation as a manufacturer and would'nt be answering questions at this time of night if you didn't . I don't care about other smaller issues I accept they happen but this is a major issue that could seriously damage land rovers reputation if not resolved.

I'm not answering on behalf of LR's reputation ...I have nothing to do with them and I am merely pointing out even at this time of night, the likely position.

LR have acknowledged engine issues as set out in various TSB's ...but there is a criteria for acceptance of liability with offers of goodwill outside of warranty that appears to include a condition of a full LR service history.

This is a long term issue and although failure rates appear excessive when condensed into forums such as this ...they are not in real terms of the %age engine failures across all marques. Incidences of 3.0 failures are less than the 2.7 but obviously they continue to occur. Reputations will be difficult to salvage from those people affected but ultimately there are 99% of engines not yet affected or may never be affected.

The T\SDV6 built by Ford has had recent adjustments and is likely to be gone within the next few years and yes LR will have to continue to manage their reputation to mitigate any damage from any continued failures but this is bread and butter stuff across the board in the motor industry tbh.

Charlie610 should naturally continue to push hard for a better outcome and I wish him well in that...but real world positions must be considered and hopefully he will acknowledge my points on that basis.
