I built my disco 3
Wandering if anyone has had the headache ive had to get their disco on the road? I bought a rolled disco 3 gs which had done 6000 miles and found a replacement shell online. It was a HSE auto, which made fitting it to a manual GS a little challenging. Dont get me wrong, changing the gear stick and adding an extra pedal wasn't hard atall, but the compatability of all the electrics was another story! Having built up my interior taking the best from both, just how i wanted it, locating a stereo and sat nav, all seemed pretty rosey! Once completed in my workshop it was off to the main dealer for the body change, something that they could do without costing the earth. Feeling like a bit of an idiot rolling up with a smashed disco on a trailer, with looks id never seen before, i soon attracted some attention! Then it was back for the new, pretty looking shell, and the 'big plan'. The guys at my local dealship can only be described as legends. I thought they would have turned their nose up and politely show me the door, but they seemed as keen as i was (probably to see it fail but willing to try!) Body went on, body came off, a lot of head scracting but together we did it. I couldnt have done it without Al, my personal mechanic, poor sod! Im pleased I did it this way as ive learned nearly all there is to know about building a disco. Nothing scares me anymore, it can 'bing' all it likes but i know ive got a good dealership behind me. It is great to see there are still some 'real' mechanics still exist in the car word, the industry seemed to have gone abit 'computer says no'! Anyone had similar a introduction to the disco 3? Coming from owning a 1 and 2, the 3 is incredible, Landrover should be proud of this one!
Thanks for reading, Bushy
