I have this one and it has no issues lifting it to a decent height, I wouldn't want it any higher to be honest.

I think this is about max height, on the rear diff Thumbs Up

Many thks, remember now that we spoke before I was thinking of buying the same trolley jack

Also forgot that u could jack it up via the diff , to be honest never done that

reminds me at some stage need to get another 2 x axle stands

But at least after I recently had mine in the garage have got a lot of the nagging issues out the way ,
mot , brake hoses , ac recharged, so can move onto servicing in the spring ,

also been thinking of getting a car creeper to see if I can change the ATF myself , bloody bad back drives me nuts , so have to try and think of the best way to do things

Thks so much once again Bow down

Hi,

It looks everyone is struggled with the lifting Smile I just have bought the same sgs 3 ton low profile. Not tried it yet and hopefully it can lift the Disco enough.
So, far I was using 3 ton trolley jack (465mm height) with wooden block as an extension, which is not good.
 Thanks,
Tiho

Have a look at the Arcan 3 tonne jacks that they sell at Costco Rock solid, no flexing and easy enough reach to lift a D3/4, plus low enough to go under a low slung car.

No pic of mine but similar.

Good afternoon,

Unless I am mistaken (and I often am Whistle ), neither of those two jacks will lift your D3 high enough?

I bought an SGS Jack this summer (and have been using it last week faffing about with EPBs) but it was a "TJ2.5 4x4 Trolley Jack".

This one ............. https://www.sgs-engineering.com/tj25-4x4-trolley-jack

They all appear to have a lift of around 530mm but without the extension piece, you will not get high enough. I know this as stupidly I forgot to add the extension piece to bring it off the jacks and spent twenty minutes scratching my head trying to understand why I couldn't get any further lift Whistle

You need the 'saddle extension' which does not appear to be part of the low profile one you are looking at Question

Failing that I would give them a ring. They are 15 miles down the road from me so I usually just call in and make any purchases direct.

Good luck.

Think this one is the one I’ll go for, does it lift the car ok ?, just need to make sure it will go under the MG aswell

Unless the wishbones aren't on the car when you start/finish, are there any instances when it's not possible (or more desirable) to lift the car under the wishbones and then lower the chassis rails onto axle stands rather than having to lift on the chassis rails?

Costco for me as above.

I always lift from chassis, the wishbones are at an angle (degree of which is dependent on the height set) not flat so I don't trust a jack under there personally.

Lowering needs to be undertaken slowly (for me very slowly) and under control not full speed and lets see where it ends up.

I can see that being a problem if your suspension is stuck high, but otherwise I've never, in hundred of lifts with the trolley jack under the wishbones, had a problem with them being at an angle.
I just don't like the height you need to operate a trolley jack at to lift on the chassis rails and haven't done so for probably getting on for 10 years now.*

* other than the 'nudge up' to get the jack stands out from under the rails after, say, changing wishbones.

Agree the Arcan looks well built when i've seen it in Costco. Just be sure it's the XL2750EU. The Arcan they normally carry from stock in the warehouse is a 2.5tonne jack from memory the 3 tonnes jack only seems to come into stock on an offer.

I ended up with a TJ3-LP which I'm more than happy with although I should look into an adapter to fit the chassis lifting points on the ice maiden

Same here Gary.

I keep meaning to visit a metal fabricator I use from time to time for parts for my BBQ's & smokers to see if he can knock something up. I just need to pull together the dimensions & send it over to him for a price.

That would be brilliant if someone could make some up as plse put me down for x 2 of them

Found this, alas realised it’s not the same because of the thread in it , jack is 20mm and this one specifies M24 , would be also great if they were thicker than normal to give An extra height allowance

Width is 94mm

See the jack spigot on removing the rubber is supposed to be 20mm

Don’t know if that’s any help , will of course see if there’s anything else noted ref these or if it’s going to be the case of starting again

There are a couple of images posted on here from other member with some dimensions.

Thanks to the originators for the information

Hope this helps. If you are able to source one for the TJ3-LP let me know as i'd be interested in purchasing one as well.
