| Steering knock issue on 2006 LR3 |
|
Is anyone experiencing the steering knock issue with their 2006 model LR3's? I have an occasional light knock or loose feeling through the steering wheel on small bumps or uneven road surfaces. Also, the knock is most noticeable when one front wheel hits a sharp bump before the other such as turning into a driveway over a shallow gutter.
Does anyone know if there is a TSB for the 2006 mode year with regard to steering knock? I plan on having the steering checked at my first service and would prefer to avoid the "Well your vehicle is outside the VIN range of this TSB so your vehicle does not have a problem." Or “We drove it and it feels normal to us.” situation. Admittedly, the knock is slight but I only have 6k on the vehicle and I assume it will only get worse as the miles pass.

Hi, I had something similar, mine is a March 2006 UK model, initially the dealer replaced a part in the steering column then when that did not work they replaced the whole steering column under warranty which has fixed the issue. I think there is a TSB on the subject. Hope that helps.

If you learn of one, I'd be interested in the TSB number also!

My 2006 TDV6 SE was in the dealers on Tuesday to have the suspension alignment reset (another TSB - uneven tyre wear). When I picked up the car the steering knock had gone too, although I hadn't mentioned it to them before the car went in.
Other people have commented that the knock on theirs has gone after having the suspension alignment reset too, and this is on also on late 05 and early 06 cars. Coincidence? _________________ Don't Panic! Everything will be fine.... inflation is only 2.5% and the flying pigs are carbon neutral

Not for this particular problem ...only replacement of the lower column solves the rattle. _________________ I'm powered by............................

Reading the TSB details posted in this thread I noticed that my 2006 is out of the VIN Range. Won't the dealer give me a bunch of guff about it if I mention the TSB when I tell them I am experiencing the same symptoms with my steering?
Also, I have noticed my front tyres are starting to feather on the inside edge (with only 6k mi.). I've noticed a similar feathering on the rear but it's less severe. Some have mentioned their steering knock disappeared after having their alignment reset. Does anyone know how the two problems may be related? I'm assuming excess toe-out or negative camber but I don't see the connection with steering knock unless the alignment settings are putting some type of strain on the steering rack... hmm.

Trekker, just curious as to what was the outcome for you? Did you ever get the knock fixed and if you did, what parts were replaced, etc....

This seems to be all a bit on going Mine has had the steering rack replaced and still no good, then they replaced the lower steering colomn, now it can hardly be felt through the steering but you can now hear it still over bumps, So its back to the dealer , I assume suspension bushes this time. I wish the would have just fixed it propely the first time.
GOOD LUCK

Get them to check the ARB bushes too. This cured mine after steering rack bits were replaced.
