I get my cars cleaned by one of the several hand car wash places we have around here. A while ago I took the D3 to one that I was happy with, but they stood on the wheels to reach the roof. Now I guess their weights will have no adverse effects, but I still don't think it is good practise, so I switched to another one of these car cleaning establishments who I feel are better anyway.
When I first went to them with my D3, I mentioned not standing on the wheels and they got a step ladder (which I guess they could fall off and cause damage with!). However today they too decided to stand on the wheels. What do you think - is it OK to let them do this?
And before anyone states the obvious, I would love to clean my own cars properly, but I simply don't have the time.

When I feel external pressure to clean my car I take it to our Eastern European friends nearby so they can make portholes out of square windows, jet wash off my fake chrome, smear the mirrors and silicone the pedals.
They stand on my steps and on the wheels, makes no odds to me, my fault for having a tall vehicle, my thoughts are one day I will take it to a proper valeter (or one of the forum OCD cleaners - You know who you are lads!) and pay a large sum to have it done properly, I guess you get what you pay for Paul Redding

Personally i wouldn't want them standing on my wheels, due to the damage factor, grit in treads of boots etc.

We used to get a proper valeter come the house and clean and polish the cars really well. He only charged me £25 per car in and out about 6 - 8 years ago and he did a really good job. Unfortunately he's gone now and the only equivalents cost far more.

I assume they are standing on the tyre, not the alloy? I can't see the grit in their boots hurting the tyre and I can't see their boots fitting in between the spokes anyway
I stand on the wheels (tyres!) when I need to reach onto the roof or grab something from the roof rack, I'm always cautious of the zip on my coat scratching my beautiful glossy paintwork

Yes - sorry I meant on the tyres!
Re scratches, my daughter's car has got scratches on the front and rear screens that I have guessed are caused by diamond rings.

Ok, no problem standing on tyres, but i was thinking laterally if you have open spoked wheels it would not be a good idea MY24 Defender 90 X-Dynamic HSE

3 tonnes ÷ 4 tyres = a big load on a tyre anyway.
And then consider the shock loading your normal pot-holed road puts through a tyre, I doubt a car cleaner will make much of an impact. Unless they are wearing crampons.
Demand they do it in their bare feet.

When you say on the wheels, do you mean on the alloy or on top of the tyre?

Drop it into access height - makes it nigh impossible to stand on the wheels, try it yourself, it's quite a challenge
You can't get your foot in far enough to balance properly

I personally can't see the problem, you will probably do more damage if any just driving to the car wash place that some under nourished East European is going to do. If you feel so strongly about it either tell them not to do it or do it yourself Cheers Ian

I did tell them a few weeks ago, but they forgot. I appreciate the replies and to be honest I think their step ladder is more of a risk to the vehicle.
