Timing belts rattle grind. |
|
Hi All
Took my D3 57. For the 105k service to main dealer. In north wales. Had service and timing belts changed. Picked it up the next day all was good. Travelled back home about 20 miles and smelt a bit of burning rubber type. Tried the next day no smell all ok. Approx 10 days have now passed and there is a wearring sound from the engine when running at low revs. Yesterday when cold starting in the morning a bad grinding and wearring noise from the engine. Noise went after 15 secs. Today the noise was even louder like bearing/springs rollers ? Any advise of the causes..
Thanks
P.s love the site read all the time but this is my first post...

Most likely the aux belt tensioner beginning to.break up. Very common for doing so just after a belt.change
However, if there is nothing wrong there, for piece of mind, I would have the belt cover off, and inspect the timing belt and pulleys...
Out of interest, did you have the oil pump replaced? My D3 Build Thread

Hi that could be anything from the aux belt not on properly or any of the rollers failing .i would not run that engine again until the source of the noise is confirmed .if it's something the dealer has done get them to recover it and put it right . Welcome by the way You're not afraid of the dark are you ?

Hi guys thanks for getting back to me so quick. Oil pump was not changed. But did have all belts / kit done by local land rover dealer. I think I will ring them in the morning and see what they say. Not a happy noise.

Hi... I've recently changed my timing belts.
As a result, I got some loud popping noise. I've checked and rechecked the timing, all seems ok.

Has anyone experienced this before?

Hi All, just an update on the noises, contacted land rover Conwy (local dealer) . After speaking to head of servicing he agreed to get the vehicle recovered. That was done within the morning, they found that there was a hose clip that was rubbing on a tensioner . All replaced and vehicle returned early the next morning. All been working well since. Good customer from Conwy LR. Thanks for your info.

I bet it was the hose above the fan pulley and they forgot to put the tywrap back on after doing the belts.. it then drops in to the path of the aux belt..
