After struggling to dry my dog in the boot on these dark winter nights I thought I'd add an extra light in there. It wasn't my idea, it was taken from this thread http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic57673.html

I used a 300mm long light instead of the 600mm shown in the above thread.

Firstly I pulled the trim part down between the headlining and the tailgate, disconnected the existing light then put the trim to one side. I ran the new cables along with some existing cables, down behind the rear drivers side panel and down into where the jack is located. Then cable tied them to the existing loom

I drilled a hole in the trim panel and fed the wires through, then secured it with two screws. On the reverse I joined the wires from the light to the new cables and then fitted the panel back in place

I wanted the light to run off my auxiliary battery so it could be left on when camping if needed, so I decided to fit a switch directly opposite the 12v socket in the boot. I wired the two lives into the switch the pushed it home

I then connected the negative to an existing point to the right of my jack. I fitted an inline fuse to the positive cable and connected it to my auxiliary battery distribution box which is also near the jack!

And the results

Brilliant!

Do you have a link to the light. Think I'll plumb one of these in over Christmas.

Ahh yes, just looked and the wording has changed to 40hp. Only ever rough anyway - some will make more and some a bit less - at least Pete's figures are realistic. Thumbs Up

Yeah I'd sooner it states an extra 40 and get somewhere near that than it promise an extra 200 but you get 5!!!

Was yours a BAS remap?

Sadly, I don't know what mine is - found out it was already done when Pete looked at the file; he said he couldn't really offer much/anything more. It annoys me a little to not know who did it, but at least I have the reassurance that Pete would have said if the file were unsafe. Thumbs Up

Nice work.

Out of interest where are you getting your work done? I've recently found a 4x4 garage in Wellington, I'm yet to use them but they're in the small industrial estate in Wellington Marsh, called 'Wellington 4x4'. Loads of Defenders there and I think I'll give them a go next time I'm too lazy to do something myself. Wink

I did it myself, my father in law owns a garage so I have use of it whenever I want. I don't get him to do the work for a few reasons, the main one being he refuses to let me pay him anything which makes me uncomfortable! I do enjoy working on my D3 also, as long as I know what I'm doing!

I've been to Wellington 4x4 quite a few times as he's just down the road from me but never with the D3. I always found him a bit arrogant but just recently when buying bits for my dads 90 he's been super helpful and talkative, so my opinions changed! A bloke up the road has a D3 for work and his company always uses him, in fact they swear by him!

Thumbs Up

Now done, Smile but not without an eventful morning... Just about to start and the MiL phones up; she's got a puncture on her mobility scooter, having tried to take it half way into the woods. Mad Rolling with laughter

Had to crack out the impact wrench on the rear bolts, one of the new front bolts was faulty and wouldn't fit on the socket, and (as expected) exhaust heat shield needed washers.

UJ was knackered as well as the centre bearing, so glad to get it done. Thumbs Up
