my job for the day...

Just picked up this little spare part from LRtradeparts... drove from york to pick it up so I could get it quicker than post, and also picked up a service kit for the 'rents freelander... wish me luck!

1st job I ever did on mine - 3 and a bit hours. Very disappointed I was hoping I'd be under there all day thereby avoiding a shopping trip.

Well, it should be have been pretty simple... how ever with a 10+ year old car simple is never quite so simple...

got the rear of the car up on ramps to get roller board underneath. loosened all 6x star torq bolts on the CV joint, loosened the center bearing, then tried to loosen the 4x star torq bolts on the universal joint.... they wouldn't budge :-/

can't get my breaker bar underneath as there isn't enough space, so only had a go at it with regular socket/ratchet but from the looks of them they're rusted solid. Have soaked the bolts in WD40 for the time being, and picking up a compressor and impact wrench tomorrow so for now nothing but bad news to report... Sad

Knocking when accelerating/decelerating, and when going over bumps.
Got under the car and saw this... the rubber holding the bearing in the sleeve is shot... completely perished and crumbling away.

I changed mine and if I can do it anyone can. Having said that, my bolts came out easily. It is SO ANNOYING when you get the socket/spanner in the bolt and nothing moves. Will the bolt shear, will the bolt head turn to butter or will the spanner/socket do a Uri Geller in front of your eyes? Been there, got the T shirt!

Luckily every such experience... first with my Freelander and now with my Disco, has provided me with excuses to expand my tool range Mr. Green
Am picking up a compressor tomorrow from Screwfix and have ordered a pneumatic impact wrench set off Ebay with free 24hr postage... should make short work of those Censored bolts... Thumbs Up

Will also come in handy for a pesky brake disc bolt I've been unable to remove to do my slot n groove upgrade... Big Cry
