My Discovery Restoration, thus far. 2005 SE
Hello Guys.
As some of you may know I'm currently fixing up a Discovery 3 2.7 TDV6 SE, which has been left in a very poor state of neglect.
It was not abused, if that is what you are thinking. Rather, instead it just seen no maintenance over the past 3 years, not by me but rather the previous owner.
Where to start?
I first fixed the suspension. The air bags were removed and when I purchased the car someone had welded springs into the old air suspension strut with the airbag cut away. I replaced these with 2 x Rears from a D4 and two from a D3 for the front.
The suspension still did not work and upon investigation, I discovered it was the front left ABS sensor. This is what caused the suspension to fail. Upon replacing this the suspension started working.
Next I blanked the EGR valve with a kit I purchased on eBay.
Then I decided to move on and fix the engine system fault on the dash. Upon reading various links on this site, I removed some trim around the battery and with an old clothes hanger got the actuator moving again. Problem Solved! I think this failing was due to the car having only completed 20,000km in two years!
Now for the next job, I sent the car to a Land Rover specialist, as I did not have time to work on it. He replaced alot of bushins, handbrake service, CVs, Track Rods, Ball Joints, Brake Pads and Discs. It now drives alot better.
Along with this he serviced the gearbox and did both timing belts, as these were overdue.
At home, I installed Adaptive Xenon headlamps, the adaptive part does not work - however I do not mind as they function perfectly as normal xenon. Much brighter over halogens. Needed xenons as they were on my old TD6 Vogue.
I also upgraded my sound system from Hi Line to Logic 7, still have to change the CCF file. Contemplating purchase a tool in the near future to do this.
Now, my current problems. The gearbox still shudders, I've been told it's either clutches slipping and or the torque converter! Dr. Tranny/ fluid & filter change helped but did not cure the problem. Also I'm about to stick in a Diff from eBay which I bought for a 100 pounds. As the bearings are gone in my current one and it's whining.
Also I changed the MAF Sensor today, it's still coming up as an error code. More digging I think is required!
That's where I'm currently at. It's safe to say maintenance is key!!
It will be a good Land Rover, now that I'm done with it. Costly, but good!
Ps - Don't mind my spelling and grammar, never was my thing!

As regards the MAF sensor issue, check that you have fuse 17 fitted in the fuse box next to the battery. As very small number of people have had it missing. No idea why.2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

Just checked fuse 17 in the engine bay. Sure enough it's missing! I installed a spare one and the car now has plenty of power and is much more like how it should be! Thanks for the heads up.
I will organise some better pics later today - but the mean time here is two pictures which I took about a month or so ago, before I undertook any work. You can notice the height which the rear is at vs the front, I think this is what damaged the front differential.
Where do I buy parts? I purchase my parts mostly on eBay, Trillick Land Rover and TP Toppings. Great Value and choice!
As I mentioned previously I'm looking for someone who could edit the CCF file for me. It would save me purchasing a diagnostics tool, of which I already have a few basic ones which suit my needs perfectly. I'd only need to edit the CCF file once! Of course, I would pay someone for there time.

I have just seen your reply - welcome to the very exclusive club of owners with fuse 17 missing! I would love to know if they are missing from the factory or get removed for a reason during a service procedure that I have not yet heard off.2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

I picked her up at handy money. But I've nearly spent the same again getting her into this condition.
Would love a UK Spec HSE, but they are very rare here and any you see is mad money.
