Yes have already checked belt and have said "everything is fine" so when they were carrying out this inspection wouldn't they notice a failure in the oil pump casing around where their new tensioner was bolted? I have read up about asking for bolt torque reports etc. Couldn't see many threads on lrcs engine claims.
Asking for torque specs etc is only relevant if it is the oil pump casing that has failed. In this case it sounds like you have bottom end failure, which is often caused by installing the oil filter incorrectly, which is why you need to inspect the oil filter to see if it looks like the crushed filter in disco_mikey's post.2008 RRS TDV6 - Chawton White/Black/Lined Oak - 20's, h/k, sunroof - 350K KM.

I carried out a full service last week and noticed the lug in the base of the oil filter. I take it that this has to engage when the filter and housing are refitted?

I sat the filter into the engine and twisted it until I felt it drop down a little hole (front left when stood in front) and then screwed the cover on after. I almost want to buy another now and redo it!!
Edit: Or just take this filter out and refit it without buying another!!

That's the correct way
Installing the filter into the filter cap and then tightening that down is the incorrect way. Install is not the opposite of removal.2008 RRS TDV6 - Chawton White/Black/Lined Oak - 20's, h/k, sunroof - 350K KM.

I may be teaching you to suck eggs, but you need to make sure the dealer hasn't already checked the filter and fitted another one to save their hides. If they haven't done this then go armed with your camera and remove the filter or get them to do so in your presence and take a photo of the filter when it is removed. That's if you haven't already done so. If it's crushed, as seems likely, then it's down to them to fix the engine.2007 Disco3 2.7 tdv6 SE

I have just put a new oil filter on, using the correct method.
Old filter (fitted at the weekend) was in perfect condition, but I now know 100% that the filter is fitted correctly.
New engine or £7 oil filter..........I know which bill I would rather pay.

I know that the Discovery filter with it's spigot is not 'typical' but it still astonishes me that garages get something so simple wrong, particularly main dealers.
You would think there have been enough cases of them getting it wrong for there to be a BFO poster with lots of bold writing indicating the correct way to fit it prominently displayed in every LR dealer's workshop.

Landrover have finally agreed that they will contribute but haven't confirmed how much. Has anyone had any experience in getting them to contribute more/all of it?

Happend to me 2 years ago too.
Cam belt changed, after 5k cranckshaft snaped. (strange coincidence) engine had only 150kkm.
Contact customer support. They were helpfull in my case but you have to be persistent and it takes time. I got a new engine for free. Paid for the oil in the engine only. Am serious.
I had full servis history and the car was mine from new.
Sadlly it's down another time atm.
Good luck.
