Added Switches
I need to add 3 to 5 switches for extra lights and aux electrics etc, i'd love to add them to the space in-front of the gearstick, that unless gap bit, but I cannot find anything that would act as a housing, any ideas peeps?
I have seen the switch pods on ebay, but they are for either the the top of the dash, or around the light, not keen on either.
Anyone got any good ideas, tips or tricks as to where is best?
Ta muchly!

Nice, I like those overhead switches.
I don't need any but may be tempted to fit some anyway so long as they light up.
Kind of like the A/C button I had in my Civic Type R even though the car didn't come with A/C.Getting fed up of stalkers

Hi guys
realise it's an old post but wondering if i can pick ur brains concerning the overhead switches plse
do u find them distracting in any way of a night time
did u just use a small hole saw to cut them in
the square blank is that to fit an electric sunroof plse , as i wonder what the switch amp rating is ,
wish to install a solar trickle charger , when i don't use the disco for a few weeks , so i could run wires directly from the battery , onto a switch mounted in the overhead panel to isolate the solar when the engine is on , then from the switch onto the solar panel, which i was thinking of mounting on the boot side window
Never really notice them, more nr only illuminate when in use, I have blue for Aux lights front & rear & Amber for strobes.
Found the pin dots (as in my pic above better than full 'button'Paul.

hi jester
many thks for the reply , most appreciate
really liked the position of ur switches and also thks for letting me know ref the dot lights
been reading through the forum regarding solar to trickle charge my crank battery to prevent it from going flat , seeing it will be winter soon i wish to try and prevent that
as i sometimes don't use the disco for 2 x weeks or so, brought a brand new exide 110 battery , which i fitted straight on the disco from delivery 6 x months ago and went flat yesterday , so brought it in doors and has been on slow trickle charge for 24 x hours
if i'm reading the threads right i can connect up to a 10 watt solar charger , connect it to the battery direct and leave it on all the time , even when the engine is running , but wondering if i need to fit a voltage meter the same way u have
would prefer to connect direct to the battery instead of making the internal cig lighter sockets perm live
thinking to either fit the solar panel on the side window or back of the sun visor
Honestly can't answered solar though have been thinking of adding something along the same lines. Electrics to me is like knitting spaghettiPaul.

if you connect a solar charger, you really need to invest in a regulator too. I have a small panel (12w approx 25x 30cm) that I bought as an experiment to trickle charge the caravan. I have found that in the hot southern june sunshine it was packing out a mid 20's voltage most days. This will fry your battery over time. I have now aquired a small reg that provides a constant 13.6v and prevents battery discharge on a dull day when the panel output may drop below that of the battery (although even in rainy aug, I have not seen the panel voltage drop below 15v so far.Not such a Disco Newbie now!

took me ages to try and understand electrics, be it how to fault find and wire up boilers, can't be that different can it,

many thks
started to read up about these regulators , would it be better to buy one anyway , even if the solar panel comes with a diode , better safe than sorry scenario
would like to wire the solar directly to the battery and not make the cig lighters permanent live , however i want to put the solar panel on the side boot window, so it's out of the way ,
assume it wouldnt need very big cables to extend the solar to the regulator box
is it ok to leave the solar charger connected all the time , even when the engine is running plse
Paul and Andy, where did you route your cables for those switches? I'm looking at something similar on my D4 for beacons, hideaways and winch override.1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8

I routed mine through the bulkhead at the front then up the pillar and across roof lining same for the rear except I went through the towing electric gromit then through roof lining
Hope this helps
