I bought a new prop and started the swap over this evening. I have undone all the bolts and the transfer box end has come away but the rear diff end seems to be stuck fast. Is it just corroded on or is there a technique need to pull it off? I was running out of light so called it a day but when I go back to it tomorrow I'll try a tap with a hammer. I don't want it coming away suddenly and landing on my head!Just 'cause you got the power... that don't mean you got the right.

Spray wd40 into the bolt holes. Wait
Insert a couple of bolts half way, so it don’t fall in your head.
Chisel it off.
Rotate half way. Repeat.
Hit with hammer etc

Good thinking, put the bolts back in loosely! I like it
I find the main problem with being an amateur mechanic is know how hard you can hit things to get them off!Just 'cause you got the power... that don't mean you got the right.

It's a wonder they still run like that.
Mine looked exc=actly the same, I did have some vibration, but not what you would have thought when I looked at it. I had thought I had inspected it right after I got the vehicle and knowledge no dou=bt from here. but within it seemed like a year it went from fine to Oh My God.
I think next time I'll order the one-piece shaft kit. More standard type over here in the states, plus both my 75 and 66 Scout's have once piece shafts as most early model trucks/cars2005 Land Rover D3, 4.4L V8, Maya Gold Metallic

Been under the car cutting out rusty rear brake pipes Found the rear prop centre bearing rubber shot……The prop has done almost 94k miles………so going to replace the whole thing with a GKN one.. I know propshafts can be sensitive to positioning if you are removing and refitting the same one, but when fitting a new one, do you just fit it in any orientation and hope for the best (vibration wise ) ? I will be trying to fit the centre bearing in the same position as the old one as far as alignment goes. Just Wack it in.
DN when i replaced mine i just bolted it up put the diff end in first then the middle (but loose) then the Transfer box end. The transfer box end has some weird shape in the middle so it self centres.
torque up all the bolts and don't forget the centre bearing carrier. job done.

I used a paint pen to mark the prop/transfer case and diff and then transfer the marks whilst lining the old an new propshaft side by side. Refit the new prop to the marks on the car and then all will be well.Just 'cause you got the power... that don't mean you got the right.
