My mother, who was a WREN, said the same. It might be more a myth than truth though:
The claim that the term Union Jack properly refers only to naval usage has been disputed, following historical investigations by the Flag Institute in 2013.[5][6][note 2]
Does not make the usage correct just because people were doing it.
HMS Discovery would not have a civilian number plate - if it had one at all (if you know what I mean).A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

Tomato, tomato. Potato, potato.
It's obviously a flag. Goes up a flagpole and waves gaily in the wind. That's what flags do. The Navy description of "jack" is correct, but they don't have a monopoly on the word "jack".
So call it either. I suspect who you are talking to will know what it is.
No sure that is a good adjective these days for how it waves as it is not fully inclusive.A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

Sure I saw a disco covered in AstroTurf once on the M5.
The wrap has been delivered but I'm now doubting the decision to take the plunge and apply it. I like the subtle look, I don't even like group stickers but settled for a small forum one.D4.5 Facelift, Lazer ST4, Prospeed underbody and rack, IID BT, Compomotive/BFG KO2, Series MFlaps, RAI, Dog Gd+XBB, Alive Tuned, T-Max/YellowTop, RemoteFBH, GlassesMod, WheelWinchMod, Jack Mod, LED Mods, Seized Crank Mod....

I'm exactly the same, I bought the most inconspicuous forum sticker I could! In all honesty I think you would make your D4 look a bit cheap if you wrap it, but that's just my opinion!
