Surely its always worth a remap on any car you willing to keep.
I wouldnt be paying Bell prices though, i think thats far to much. Its just a software load. 200 sounds reasonable, my mate who is trained was still going to charge me £150, but he does know his stuff.

Your not just paying for a "software download" though, your in part paying for the years of development and improvement for the software and no doubt the aftercare and support. I for one would only use someone reputable. I've seen a few guys cars destroy themselves because of a cheap "remap"

Oh yeah if you let anybody loose on your car you get what you deserve. But certianly wouldnt be paying 500.

What would you be willing to pay?

Bearing in mind the cost of the day of, which is in excess of £30k, which the maps are developed on
And the man hours involved in refining the map
And the cost of the hardware/software/training
And business premesis and associated rent/rates

What makes the map so good is it the price then? which pretty much can be made up as
You now hold the equpitment/map?

Once the over heads have been recouped surely £500 quoted above is quite a large some?

I would say 500 is what people are willing to pay, so thats what they charge. Also this stage 1&2 thing you see just lifts more money off you. The send your ECU to them part is the give away for me, not like there 'tuning' your engine or following/adjusting live readings. Over heads could be super low.

Id say a mate downloading the mappis the lowest level were maybe things will go wrong. At the other end of scale, my pal at work started his own business done all the courses(some of which only 50% of attendees pass) and invested a lot of money for equipment laptops leads etc, and he's still nowhere near 500 by half for a remap. And no charging extra for EGR delete.

At the lower end of the remap market, the injector duty cycle is extended, fuel pressure is ramped up, and Boost pressure is ramped up. Yes, it will make more power, but it won't won't do anything for reliability or longevity of engine components...

Essentially, exactly what I experienced with my remap...
Ate a set of injectors within 10k miles
Blowing off Boost hoses every few days
Very smokey
Very harsh power delivery
Fuel pump running at 98% of its maximum pressure at all times
Boost pressure set 0.4bar above its "safe" limit

Since having the Alive remap done,
I have not had to put any more injectors in the car
Never had another boost pipe fall off
Smoke is vastly reduced
Power delivery is much, much smoother

Knowing now, what I didn't know back then, I firmly believe that I would not have had to replace my gearbox had I not had the first remap done...
