sheared roof rails bolt off help |
|
I sheared the head off the bolt holding the roof rails down. I was not sure before I drill it out if the nut on the roof is a insert nut, then i would just remove the insert nut and clear the nut of the old stud and replace it.
I cant find a drawing of how the nut is secured to the roof. If any body has had a look under the rood lining and checked what is going on. I seem to be good at breaking bolts on land rover.

You should just be able to remove the stud complete with the remainder of the bolt and replace it, part no is (I think) AYR500061 The End

Thank You very much. I phoned Landrover SA and they said the part number is only valid for UK. The car is built in the UK He said he will order one 3 weeks and only R 90.00 so I am quite relieved. Discovery 3SE tdv6

Might be worth asking Nick, they're only small so I'm sure he'll ship to SA and it might even work out a bit cheaper The End

Hi
I have just mananged to shear the rear bolt off on my roof rails........ and make matters worse I managed snap the easy-out when trying to get it out, so I am well truly snookered , but on reading this post I understand that there is a replacement stud available which houses the bolt -and it is less that £2 , but how easy is to replace? I looked at removing it and there appears to be waterproofer around stud and the channel the roof rail slots into which would be damged on removal.
Any help would be appreciated as we where meant to be driving to Aberfoyle tomorrow to pick the xmas tree and it was going to be strapped to the roof on the way back - could be struggling now - kids and wife not happy!!!!
