Hi Guys,
I have just had a problem with my top tail gate. When I push the button form outside I here the motor operate but the tail gate does not open 
Any suggestion on how to get it open and/or what the problem is

Had this happen to mine a few weeks ago ,the cables from the motor to the locks had either broken or come off in warranty so dealer fixed it while I waited, so I dont think it was a huge job (2 cups of coffee as I remember ) I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person

Sounds similar to what happen to me. Just gotta figure out how to get the cover off

Easy once you have done a few. I use a screwdriver to gently prise up the plastic trim, and with a trim clip tool (or another screwdriver) ease the trim out. Then you can release the cable from there. Its a pretty tight fit though

Guys,
I am not having a very good time with this job. I am starting to doubt which trim is the one I should be removing. Is it the large trim inside along the back window or is it on the handle outside the car or is it one that is somewhere else! Help!
I may have to drive the 2 hours to get it fixed.

Hi,
It's the trim inside the back window that needs to come off, then you can see the whole mechanism.
I guess you'll be jumping over the back seat for access. Just pull the whole trim straight out from the window.
it has plastic pop out clips and medal spring clips designed to release by pressure. I took mine off to fit extra electrics and had to replace a couple of the clips on reassembly, it goes back on easily.

What is the knack of releasing the latch manually? I can get my hand in. I can feel the cable. I pull the cable, but I can't get it to release. I know it will be simple when I find out. The penny isn't dropping at the moment

Sorry you are having a tough time.
1. You will need to pull cable at both ends of the door to get both the latchs to retract, it may help to have some one outside apply light pressure so the latches move easily.
2. Then you should ba able to push the door outward.
3. you may find enouch space to slide some flat plastic into the latches from inside the car to help them release and not reangage whe you let tension of the cables.

Wish I had read this 4 weeks ago.
Tailgate jammed about 2 hours before we took the ferry for a three week holiday.
LR Assist, to their credit, came quickly to look at it, but could not resolve issue.
UK dealer suggested only option was to try and have it fixed abroad by dealer network.
Transpired that this would take 3 visits (long story) to the dealer and use up 3 days of our holiday.
Quite reasonably my wife asked that I didn't spend 3 days of our holidays fixing the problem.
Spent rest of holiday with only access to boot through folding rear seats down.
The twist - we have three children under 5 in car seats on the back bench!
Accessing the boot resulted in much cursing (mainly on my part) as I had to remove car seats every
time I wanted to access the boot!

I mentally imaged that as FIVE children under 3  - and was nearly in tears of sympathy at the thought  .
Bad enough the way it was!

I have actually fixed my issue on the weekend. I spent hours on it though. I wish I had thought to take some photos. I will put together a bit of a step by step on how to fix. It helps if you have small hands… You know what they say about men with small hands..
