I take it you mean easy job? Have to admit the wire can be quite difficult to get hold of, but otherwise a simple fix.....

Top Tail Gate failed to open |
|
Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread, must mention 'Jdea' 'Chocolademan' and 'bbyer' Thanks
Just completed the job on New Years Eve, my top tail gate wire snapped 2 days ago 8hrs before the fuel pump packed up !!
Fuel pump job cost £668 Plus £108 for recovery
Thanks to you, Tail Gate repair has cost nothing just a bit of pain finding the broken wire.
Best Wishes to All

I have read every post under this section, and suitably knowledgeable, I crawled into the back of my D3 to commence the job. However, I didn't find foam underneath the carpet of the appropriate panel. I found a very solid panel! (feels like wood or fiberglass to which the carpet is glued) Am I missing something? I cannot imagine being able to "pop" this solid panel out from under the trim!
Can anyone please help?

I thought exactly the same and pulled the carpet off, it is the panel it is glued to that you need to get behind, I found it was large screwdrivers needed, when you get to the point in thinking its about to break it should come out! The carpet is easily glued back on. Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Some jpg's in my gallery. |

The link below is to an album in my gallery with some pictures of the lower tail gate torn apart. One of the jpg's might help a bit to show you what the carpet is glued to.

Hi Jinibiza
The hard back to the carpet only comes off at the top, then the fun starts wedging your had in the opening trying to find the broken cable and getting a pair of pliers on it.
However this job is do-able as I did it!! A must do is to apply the Mod so you can open the tailgate with out this fuss in the future

This has just happened to my 05 Disco. Unfortunately I am over 5000k's from home and a rear load space packed. I attempted to prise the panel off after reading this forum, a lack of suitable tools was my problem until I remembered I had some bicycle tyre levers with me, also had the bikes, these worked a treat and had the panel off in less than a minute. Same thing the L bit had broken, I used the brass bit from an electrical connector (a tip from this forum) as a Temporary repair unil I come across a stealer. Have just joined this club also with a 2007 MY08 D3.
Mine started working very slowly and intermittently. Took to workshop who confirmed the wire was almost snapped but main problem was with the solenoid that also had to be replaced. Works very fast now. Best news of all the extended Allianz warranty covered it 100%.

Lower tailgate won't open |
|
Anyone know how to get the LOWER tailgate open. I was able to open the lift gate by pulling on the broken cable, but the lower won't open.
Thanks,
Matt
