LED Trailer Lights

Afternoon all,

I've just spent several hours searching for any details on this topic, so am prepared for the barrage of linked topics Embarassed

On one of my trailers, I use LED indicators and tail / stop lights (fog is standard incandescent) and TLO has already advised me that my Disco is likely to "go crackers." I've only been able to find a passing reference that the engine management light will get upset.

Is it a question of mounting ballast resistors, if so are they needed on each line or does the Disco only monitor certain signals?

If, (and it's a big 'if' due to the cost...) I decide to run D4 rear lights - which need ballast resistors on the indicator circuit, will this satisfy the software or do I need a set for both trailer and vehicle?

Cheers.

Ian H

You need something called a pulse shunt.

300 dollars!

Not up to date with AUS $ exchange rate, but I bet that's a lot of dosh. Looks like my trailer might be getting some supplementary lights too.

It's already got marker lights cos it's 28ft long, but they're all off one light circuit. A little more investigation is required methinks. I really don't want to ditch the LED lights because they stop people from sitting too close to the trailer

Thanks for that.

Australia 2009 Discovery 3 TDV6 Base 5 Seat Auto Stornoway GreyDiscovery 3

I fitted a LED module from www.linearelectronicdesign.com
The LED Module is a portable device that can be mounted on trailers in minutes and solves all the problems of strobing LED trailer lights on Discovery 3, Range Rover and Freelander 2, BMW, VW Touareg and other European vehicles.

It works fine.
Cost AUS $245.

I've got one of these on my enclosed trailer, imported several of them from Australia AND I HAVE ONE SPARE that wires directly in to the trailer Thumbs Up
