11 Weeks old and not covered by warranty? |
|
Got a puncture on D4 last week. Puncture was not repairable at tyre place so tyre was sent away for specialist repair.
Spare wheel winch was wound up (without spare on) to lift cable off the ground as per instructions on p.227 on manual.
Collected repaired tyre yesterday and decided to keep it as the spare.
Wound winch down, put spare onto winch, wouldn't wind up any further as soon as it started to take the weight. Took spare off again, winch winds perfectly!! Spare back onto winch but again won't lift.
Rung dealer this morning who said this would not be covered by warranty as I had used the winch wrongly??
Said there would have been a card? in my information pack explaining correct operation and as a result LR are not acknowledging warranty claims on these winches. He said that the winch SHOULD NOT be used without a wheel attached to it.
So how the do you get the cable off the ground then??
He put me onto LR Customer Service, who shared his opinion on the whole but suggested it was booked in for assessment at the dealer and they would monitor the case.
Booked in at dealer for a weeks time. Cost to replace and fit £164.67 incl. VAT.
Not a silly amount of money but I still think its . Have done everything as per the manual, can't see any card in the info pack?
Just wondered if this has happened to any others, couldn't find anything on a search of forum?

When you consider what the car must have cost to buy its a poor show when they don't just replace straight away foc. And by backing out of it the consumer feels hard done by no matter how small the cost.
I agree poor service....

I bet if you unwound it under load completely and wound it back in under load it would be fine. Nothing wrong in trying it. Club Exped trailer

No card with mine either , sounds a little like it is cheaper to print a card ( especially when they don't ) than make it work properly.
Clearly doesn't work in the real world when you need to leave a wheel for repair or the like , rubbish answer from Land Rover , I wouldn't be leaving it there.

I've replaced mine on the D3 for similar issues - LR Warranty won't touch them with a barge pole, insisting they only fail due to user error.
I think Strrastones wanted £80 to fit it, that'll be £13.34 per bolt!!!!!

Land Rover are just a s**t, arrogant Company backed up by even worse Dealers! It's a pity their vehicles are so capable, and even more of a pity that they're on a roll at the moment. Everything is a damned battle with them. I have had a recent experience with them, and have insisted that my details are deleted from the local Stealer's system to stop being pestered by phone calls and letters regarding services and MOT's. We'll see.
Now compare that to the experience I had with Mazda a few years ago when three of the four wheels on an MX-5 started to corrode a little. They were replaced without quibble within a matter of days. Now bear in mind the price of the two vehicles too.
If someone else built such a capable all round vehicle, which drove as well as the Discovery, and was as versatile, I suspect many of us would see sense and be off like a shot. Sadly there isn't IMO a good alternative at the moment. The Far Eastern stuff is generally horrible to drive and antiquated, and the German stuff too "in your face".
Rant over. I need to lay down!

If the card was not supplied, then that is a (IMO) a failure of the PDI process and the dealer should pick up the tab. 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

This is the kind of penny pinching that gives LR a bad reputation and seems to happen more in recent years
As a committed supporter of the JLR brand it makes my blood boil - have a word with citizens advice/trading standards it is obviously unfit for purpose Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Followed the pretty basic instructions to the letter, but still failed. How can they blame user error if You've followed their instructions? 11 RR 4.4 TDV8

so for those of us not lucky enough to have a "special disclaimer"card what is the correct approved procedure
I guess a lot of people have had problems here 'cos I see loads with the wheel upside down and a springy thing hanging out. It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.

Had the same problem with mine. Dealer replaced winch under warranty. If you can't use it without load should there not be a warning notice next to the winding bolt.
