Clock Spring/ Rotary Coupler Exploded Pics
OK so dis-assembled might be a better description but exploded got your attention!
The Volume buttons started to play up on SWMBO's D3 so I managed ot get hold of a Clockspring from flea-bay. Once I'd fitted it my curiosity got the better of me so I carefully pulled the old one apart. Might be of use to member on here as it's a bit of mystery as to what exactly goes on in that little box of tricks:

This is what happens when you pull the ribbon cable out from the centre. It is possible to rewind it with care - Picture no 1 was actually taken last

Haven't had chance to fault find it yet, but was thinking I'd have a play about with it. Of course there is the issue of the airbag, do you want to do a poor repair and risk it having an impact on the airbag and its functionality, or do you just cough and replace it??

I'm also suffering from intermittent volume buttons - did the new clock spring cure it for you?

I had an intermittent fault on the volume buttons myself a while back, I just took out the airbag and unplugged the button connectors, then put it back together giving the connector plugs a good "waggle", its' been OK ever since.Clive

Cleaned the button connectors which worked for a while buy the replacement clock spring seems to worked a treat
