Hi simon, mine is a late 05MY which started to make this noise about 6 months ago at around 30,000 miles. Now done 42,000 miles and getting noticeably worse. Think it'll be a trip to the dealer very soon and certainly before the 3 years is up! I've complained before to the dealer about a transmission "clonk" when pulling away under a very light throttle such as the stop start stuff you get in traffic, but they said it was all within spec.
I have Exactly the same symptoms as you described earlier, light press of the throttle and the diff noise is gone. When did yours start?2005 D3 HSE 2011 D4 Landmark 2016 D4 HSE Lux

Always been there I think (only really thought about it a month ish ago) and done nearly 8K miles now. I'm not sure if its actually a problem or not... just my last one never did it. The MY08 I now have makes different noises so could be normal. The engine especially is 'different' in sound and ISTR that loaners I've had during servicing had the same engine sounds (MY07 onwards).
But the whine is unexpected TBH so will ask someone to listen out and see what they think.
Service Manager from Yeovil has been furnished with the pictures and subsequently rang with profuse apologies to express his dismay and disappointment that this has happened. In the meantime I think he may be having a little chat with one of the techs once he's gone through the job card to see who did what.
Car is going in next Tuesday for three days to have this lot properly inspected and to fit a new starter motor after the present one failed on Staurday afternoon (entirely unconnected with the work that had been done)
Big thank you to Nick for passing the pics to the service manager and to the service manager to getting onto this so promptly I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Thats a good outcome
I hope they did it out of genuine concern for their customer
rather than Nick putting pressure on them Pete
Peter, the Service Manager, sounded genuinely contrite and not a little worried. Probably a good thing I wasn't able to speak to anyone on Saturday afternoon as I was pretty at the time, but was able to chuckle about it this morning and have a constructive conversation. Poor chap must have been bricking himself about ringing me!
:edit: Peter, just to be clear, the Service Manager's name is Peter. Ok Peter?

Good news
Be interesting to see what reason they come up with for
the original stuff up......im a bit concerned about the cost
of doing those sorts of repairs when warranty runs out Pete
I hope they did it out of genuine concern for their customer
Hey Guys
Yep, trust me Peter was onto this as soon as i mentioned it to him and gave him Al's photos.
