BTW ...Steve has a hole in his left hand pocket 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
I have a slight transmission noise, whirring/slight grinding from pull away. It seems to be mainly in 2nd gear and a bit in 1st. Not really an issue and I put it down to it being a LR, but it is something I would like looked into. I have just surpassed the first 1000 miles and so far aside a rattly speaker in the pax door, all seems fine?
If you can get along the SE meet at the Fairmile in Cobham on the 27th there will be any number of willing ears to have a listen and see if it rings any bells, metaphorically speaking I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

As previously reported.
Under load it is there, lift off it goes. It sounds as if it is coming from the front diff, could be the tranfer case.
I have reported it, the stealer changed the oil to see if that would correct the problem, it didn't.
Had the D3 at the stealers for the last couple of days, new steering wheel and electrical seat adjustment fitted to replace the manual one that just did not work.
While there they looked at the diff. I now have a new front diff on order. PLUS new bushes for the front arms, new master brake cyclinder and they have a fix for the "farting".
All this for a D3 with 94k kms.
I cannot fault this service department. This is the BEST service I've ever had for any vehicle. 06 TDV6 SE with many LR and after-market extras. Used only on weekends and trips out west.

Mines started to whine slightly when accelerating too now... not as noticeable as when lifting off though.
Noise seems to be front and centre, but sometimes appears to come from the rear kurbside.

I think a nosey round looking for an oil link is worth doing - a whine on the front and the damp patch was what triggered GS Stockport to change my front diff last monthSteve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Hi Simon,
I have the same symptoms you have (had, may be) : transmission noise when decelerating (between 120km/h 80km/h).
Did you fix it?
Thanks a lot for sharing your experience.
