A few years ago, we had diesel, which had a high(er) sulphur content than we do nowadays. The sulphur is what was used to lubricate the moving parts of the fuel system.
The diesel we have nowadays doesnt have the same lubrication properties, and also contains Bio, further reducing lubricity.
2 Stroke oil just helps lube eveyrthing up again, and give everything a good clean out
FWIW, I used the cheapest JASO FC I could find in Tesco, sure it was £4 for a litre

I think that 600ml is a bit steep, and it soon adds up as an additional cost.
The car has a 92 litre tank (not all usable, but it's big) but I think that a half plus litre of oil on the diesel is quite a lot. Based on some reading around the subject a while back, plus my own use of 2 stroke, I have found that about 200ml in a tank achieves a good effect. The car is quieter and starts more easily. So I'd say 200ml is at least a fair place to start. See how that goes and take it from there, perhaps.
That said, never tried 600ml, so can't speak from a position of any knowledge. Quite right that it must be mineral. Cheaper the better! (maybe).PAGODA

Probably a bit expensive, but what about "Castrol R" used to be used in bikes and gave off a lovely sweet smell Not sure if it still exists tho!

I did this a few times (have to admit I forgot about it after 6 months away!) - I made a 1 litre pot last 3 tank fills, to keep the cost down. Seemed to make the engine run a bit quieter, as suggested above ...Regards,

I tried this yesterday and below are my results, none scientific you understand as its only been in overnight
First of all i filled up the other day with supermarket fuel and i imediately noticed the rattle it was terrible so after deciding to never visit supermarkets for fuel i remembered about the two stroke add in.
i have put 250ml in a complete fill for the simplest of reasons, i can get 4 fill ups out of a 1L bottle
The results, well its definately a lot less rattly even compared to the Shell stuff i normaly use without the 2T
It may just be me but i think it may just take an extra crank to fire her up ? i didnt really notice any smoke before out the back so no change there and economy is as it was !
I went out in it last night and the FBH came on and again this morning,
If my EGR's fail then i can lay the blame on the 2T which to be honest is the only thing that im slightly concerned about, as its a 57 plate i cannot blank them off.
Fingers crossed.Only dead fish go with the Flow !

I have been using it in my 57 plate Transit as a bit of an experiment and yes it certainly seams less rattly. No change in mpg or smoke

No, really actually, it holds just under 100 litres when completely empty. It has about 80 odd usable litres. I have filled a new tank from empty. Actually. PAGODA

Halfords do it. Just listed as 2 stoke oil in a grey blue container in 1 litre size. I think it's about £6 but that was a while ago (and I may be mis-remembering).PAGODA

A supermarket should sell it ?
As its used in the Scootay ? small motor factors, even lawn mower places, B&Q etc ?
I got mine from a Motorbike spares place.
Ive read somewhere the cheaper the better as it is less likely to have anything Synthetic in it.Only dead fish go with the Flow !

Used to do that - just for that great smell - pretending that we went Trialling or Racing Yes it is still available - it's a vegetable based oil - Castor Oil - pause for jokes !
Needs to be mineral, as it will not burn properly and will leave residues in exhaust system .
Stop the exhaust going rusty then. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Down and out's Velar
In UK - Dare not say on this Forum
Gone - Lots of Lode Lane vehicles.
