Broken aux belt tensioner
Took the d3 out last night for a run as it hasn't moved for 2 weeks, I noticed on startup the rattle the car has had since I picked it up over a year ago was now a squeak. On the 8 mile journey the squeak turned into a squeal like a loose fan belt.
Had a chance to look at it today and found the lower aux belt tensioner sitting at an angle to the engine, popped it off and it looks even worse.

Really shouldn't have ignored the rattle for so long just glad it didn't shear off and cause more damage. Parts ordered from Steve for a mid week fix.

Feeling relieved its been caught and will be fixed before we tow the caravan in 3 weeks. Didn't realise there was even a tensioner burried all the way down there. I'd always assumed the top tensioner was the only one.

My friendly MOT man spotted it from underneath and let me know.
Didn't take more that 15mins to change once I had a new one, but as usual getting the fan off was the hardest part when working on the front of the engine.

Amazed you managed to do it without taking the fan off to be honest, replaced mine in the spring and with a set of Fan spanners it was a really quick and easy job, tea wasn't even half drunk before I'd finished it.

If it's the tensioner it really is an easy quick fix, I changed the belt while I was at it, daft not to tbh, worst part is the cost of the new tensioner !

It really is an easy job once the fan is off.
