However they will need to be 'male' threaded rather than 'female' threaded (as shown in the photo) to work on the D3.

Why ?

The D3 has studs fitted which are an external male thread, so to screw one of these guides on, you need them to have an internal female thread.

Glad you said that I was wondering if I'd gotten duff information about the wheel studs!! These are M14 x 1.5 and as far as I'm aware they will fit D3, D4, RRS, FFRR, P38

I will have a set - I find it more difficult to lift the wheel on without scraping the threads since having my ops on my elbows Thumbs Up

The D3 has studs fitted which are an external male thread, so to screw one of these guides on, you need them to have an internal female thread.

Unless I am getting confused (easy at my age) the tool need to be screwed into the thread on the wheel bearing ‘flange’ (???), wheel placed on the tool and pushed into place, the other wheel bolts screwed in to place, then the tool is then removed (unscrewed) and the remaining bolts fitted.

Therefore it needs to be male with the thread on the outside like the wheel bolts (they don’t look that way round in the photo).

The wheel bolts aren't "bolts" they are "nuts" - so a female thread is needed

Good, cos that's wot you got Thumbs Up Solid tubes with threaded holes.
When you come to refit your wheel just screw the Guide-o-Matic on to 2 studs on the hub, line the hole up with the longer guide, slide it on a bit, line the smaller one up and push the wheel home! Simples!! It should not be necessary to do the guides up more than finger tight, as long as they are firm and not wobbling, all will be good. the bar is just incase you over do it and find that you can't remove them after!
Oh and it goes with out saying that you need to put 3 wheel nuts on before removing the guides Wink

I'm fairly sure someone in the enthusiast club was making them for the Jag XJ that were about 2ft long that had some flex in them.
You could locate the bars in the wheel without lifting it and then slide it on.
