In theory, there are plenty more 2.7L around than 3.0L at the moment.
Don't panic to much, these failures are ony on a tiny number of engines built. I've read that it's something like 1% which is no more than any other vehicle on the road really. Freelander SE 2005 Auto.

Pulley is £49 + VAT. Half an hour or so to replace
Not convinced that is the issue though. If it was, then all these replacement engines would have blown up too, as a new engine doesn't come with a new crank damper...
Would you happen to have the part number Mike? For £60 it's got to be worth replacing it as least as often as the timing belt. Freelander SE 2005 Auto.

Poll going on the SA 4x4 forum at the moment... running @23% although this si very likely to be skewed by the fact that those who have had failures would be members... anyone want to doe a poll here?

Personally, in 10 years I have seen:
2x TDV6 with broken con-rod/s
2x TDV6 with broken crankshaft
There have been more failures with the oil filter being fitted incorrectly... My D3 Build Thread

DM, could you clarify that? Of the 4 mention, with broken con rods or crankshafts, are you saying most of them failed because of incorrectly fitted oil filters, or are you saying you have seen more failed engines (other than these 4) directly caused by a bad filter fitment?
