What have the police said? Insecure keys? Inside job? Breaking and entering? Went for a job as a human cannonball. Not the right calibre.

This throws an interesting light on the ongoing thread over on farcebook about one chap's issues with an insurance-approved body shop. I seem to recall that one of his initial complaints was that his D3 had been left outdoors and unlocked, and that the bodyshop couldn't understand why he was upset about it.

That was me. My D3 was left outside unsecure and on both visits found it unlocked!
I am truly gutted for the owner of this Discovery. Nothing worse than not only your pride and joy being stolen, but not being able to deal with it yourself.
The bodyshop is fully responsible for paying out for this car. Not your own insurance company as it was in the care of the bodyshop.
If you post this as a stolen please help find it post on Facebook, I will be more than happy to share it. Thanks to your body kit, if one gets broken on Ebay in that colour, it should be easy to find.
That's not good news & hope situation resolved to your satisfaction soon.
I agree with the comments re bodyshop's responsibility for insurance though it doesn't help much.
More than happy to help with any Facebook posts.
Keep us in the loop & best of luckPaul.

So chaps the update, I returned home a week into Dec,The car was still MIA and not recovered. Probably somewhere in Africa or in many pieces elsewhere!!
I spoke the insurance company expecting things to be all sorted however to my dismay nothing was resolved. In fact they were more concerned if a tracker was fitted to the car, bare in mind this was 8 weeks after the theft.
After many hours talking to different people from the same insurance company it was obvious that the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing. To cut a long and boring story short, after a week I excepted an initial payment of £13200 , and am expecting a final payment of £1300.
DVLA have said I can't use my private plate that was on the car for 12 months
So £14500 in total which is probably more than I would have got on a part ex, buts its the principal of it all, I will not be using that firm again.
So I have plenty of parts for sale at home, which I will put onto the site , on my return in April. Probably going to go down the route of an RRSRegards Tony

Yes basically it did come off my insurance, even though they were told from the beginning that the garage had excepted full liability. It hasn't effect my NCD or anything like that. It was a bloody mess and very confusing to be fair, nearly lost my faith in insurance companies, as I said I won't be using them again. Apparently they are now chasing the other side for payment. As my broker, A Plan is also on the case.Regards Tony
If they get payment back then it won't be a claim on your own insurance (they'll always pay up at first and then claim it back from the other side), and there should be no doubt as to the bodyshop's liability. Keep aware down the line regardless, because two years down the line after our FL2 was written off, the insurance company had wrongly recorded it as our fault on the database - SWMBO phoned them up and gave them hell and it was sorted...

The owner should not suffer any loss or inconvenience nor profit from an incident that was out of his control, that is what insurance is for.
The maximum punishment for a first time affender not using violence is 14 days in prison, is there any wonder there are so many cars stolen?-got to be worth the risk for a £60k car It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

It may not have affected your NCD but it is now registered as a £14500 claim against you in the insurance databases and renewal insurance premiums WILL be affected as a result. Sure they will apply NCD afterwards but the actual underwriting calculation will now be much higher to begin with.
Jump on a comparison site, you'll have to add insurance claim details in the appropriate section regardless of NCD - watch the premium rise
