Ok .. at last getting round to deal with the can or worms that is a carPc.
Here is where Im at ,
I just ordered a samsung q1.Ultra
This is going to mounted in the hole above the radio (where the factory fit display goes)
this is a fully functioning pc on its own , (I went this way as I can take the unit out of the
car and use it as a mobile unit , handy for some of the work we do )
Also going into the disco is an iSCSI Nas Raid array (1 terabyte) , this will where I'll store
all my music and vids ,(loads of porn ) I can also keep all my work applications and software tools here
as well as a backup for my laptop when Im in field.
All will be linked together over ethernet by a router that has the ability to take a CARDBUS
3G data card. the routher will also act as a wireless AP for when out side of the Disco.
(this will also be handy for taking offsite backups of our CRM and accounts packages
as I can get our office server to push a backup to the NAS every day as the disco will be able to
join our office Wifi network when its parked out side ... )
I have all of the above sorted . Now i need to consider software to drive the interface.
The Q1 runs XP , I dont want to run Linux , considered it but to many draw backs (iSCSI Initiator for example)
So whats the best app for the job, looking at http://www.gnetcanada.com/dd-carpc-software-overview.asp
as an option ,
Also I want to use the Q1 as my day to day sat nav, I need a USB GPS device of some sort , and I think that Garmin have a mobile PC version of their nav application . Also I need to consider route planning and mapping , Memory Map
looks good but No irish Maps , any of the irish boys of girls crack this one yet,
Also toying with the Idea of some POE wifi cams , external views of ground clearance
Also would this work http://www.gnetcanada.com/vehiclepc-carpc-...EHICLEDIAG
Any views or comments would be welcome . Also what else would you add . ? _________________ One Wife.. Kill it ..

how are you going to power all this when it's sat outside your office Barry, have you filled the boot with Optima Red tops? I'm guessing the NAS box is one of the ones with the 2.5" laptop style drives in as most of the other sorts tend not to like being carted about the place a lot, or are there ruggedised versions out now? _________________ and then....??

Good man Barry
Heres a list of "front end " software for you to look through.
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/software-s...-apps.html
Iv tryed most and at the moment for me Centrafuse is the one im going with ( when i get round to fitting my pc in the car)
Large buttons and not too cluttered...also some interesting plugins aswell
Like the idea of the router
OBDII is a bit dubious ..i have no luck with my adapter on the D3 ..check out http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic17818.html _________________ JAVA BLACK SE , MANUAL , PRIVACY GLASS , EBONY LEATHER , COLOUR CODED PARTS , SIDE PROTECTION TUBES , HIDDEN WINCH (12000 LBS) , 19" HSE WHEELS.

I'm with Wiggs...Centrafuse is great and gets my vote too. It comes intregrated with Sat Nav and everything you could need including the bluetooth-based PhoneControl.NET module.
Roadrunner is an open source option, very good, but not quite as polished as Centrafuse.....
Streetdeck is very flashy, but you will need to buy a license for the latest versions....not much chance of cracking them....
How are planning on mounting this in the top cubby hole???
The available width is 178mmm and even a 7" Xenarc screen has to be cut down by 10mm either side to squeeze it in..............the Q1 that you've bought is almost 230mm wide.... _________________ 2006 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

It's not effin' fair
Been trying to put the time to one side to install my car pc and all my time seems to get diverted to chopping logs, building a treehouse and fencing in endless bloomin' chicken runs.

I do love the idea of that PC in the dash though........deeply envious _________________ D3 05 SE (old one)

With 14 inch screen it could be difficult to fit in the screen slot? _________________ Getting there is half the fun

Wow Barry - can't wait to see that - do you need to add a split charge and second battery for it - between the disks and screen etc it is going to use a bit of juice.
Are you going to take out the air vents either side of the current screen to fit it in?
