I don't beleive it!
Just had mine looked at and I have a different pipe leaking. Mine is leaking from the pipe that connects to the rear pipe - It's the pipe and bits labelled 19835A in Lee's diagram posted on his gallery. Haven't got a price yet but I'm sure it will not be cheap - even if the quality is!
I had already ordered the rear pipe and bits (19835B) so will get that done at the same time cos that's bound to fail as well at some point.
Hopefully getting in all done next week when the parts arrive so can probably find out exactly where the failure is on the pipe.
Also getting Track rods and lower wishbones done next week - blimey if you want a job for life become a Land Rover Parts supplier!

REAR AIR line - just leave the "corrosion causer"
I had the front wheel arch liner off trying to find a tool I dropped in the inner fender, and looked at the clamp holding the rear AC lines to the body. Totally rusty. The lines look fine tho, but indeed this clamp holds water behind it on the AC lines. So I removed the clamp with the 10mm nut... and was going to replace it, but I just left it off.
The lines are very solidly mounted, no back and forth play noticeable with the clamp removed-- can anyone give a good reason to put the clamp back on ?
PS -- the rear clamp just adjacent to the suspension compressor is still in place.

We got our car in Feb from an indy dealership. (Metropolis model which is based on the HSE with some extra bits & bobs, so it has both front and rear aircon).
Realised we had no chilly-willy back in May - local LR Dealership pressure tested and refilled the system. Fridge-like again = everybody happy.
No cooling again now.
Back to LR dealership yesterday, who left it overnight and rear pipes now confirmed with "very slight leaking". No charge for this additional work (for which I was obviously very happy, although they should have noticed this first time round).
Have been quoted for two pipes at £115+VAT each (I think this was LJUE500084 and LJUE500085, but don't have a print-out of the screen) with an estimate of 5-6 hrs labour. . This would appear to be one more pipe than others on here (?) and a lot of labour.
Needless to say - the final figure for repair is £scary (it started with an 8 ).
1. Car is still under 3rd party warranty (2 weeks remaining). Called them and they asked to speak to dealership to understand how pipes have become faulty. I thought they were seeking confirmation that there were no signs of physical damage to the pipes caused by grounding etc. Dealership suggested pipes were "probably" holed due to corrosion, but could not confirm until they were removed. Warranty co have stated "we don't cover corrosion - that is wear & tear". Going to give them a call myself in the morning, but I shall not pretend to be surprised at that response.
2. I've seen another thread where an independant AC specialist took only 2hrs to replace rear pipes. Will try to find one in the locale and get a quote from them too.
Had to have the front-to-rear aircon pipes replaced on mine recently. They are supplied as a set, ready assembled complete with clamps. The quote you got doesn't seem right to me. £115 + vat for the set was about what I paid. And labour 5 to 6 hours - no way. 3 hours tops and that includes the necessary leak test/deep vacuum/recharge etc.
I mention a deep vacuum for the following reason:
If you have a leak allowing the gas to escape, it will also allow moist air into the system. The water will collect in the pipework and other components and cause the system to corrode from the inside. Before a recharge, a good air con specialist will apply a deep vacuum to the system. This lowers the internal pressure to the point where any water contained in the system will boil at ambient temperatures and the resulting vapour is sucked out, leaving the system nice and dry inside, ready for a regas. Now an ex-D3 owner after 7 happy years. rear aircon nit... ?
Anyone can tell me [just bought LR3 2006 HSE, 1st LR, awating delivery...] if my car has a 'rear aircon unit'?
I get the car with 6mnts warranty... Isn't there an upgrade for these pipes..recall... Would it be reasonable
to ask dealer to replace them when even not leaky yet... Dan , Netherlands

My 2006 HSE A/C stopped working properly in the summer . First noticed it in France in July, forgot about it when we were back home. Last couple of sunny days and remembered that the A/C was duff so thought I'd give Kwik Fit a call. £29 all in for an HSE with rear A/C, checked for leaks as well. Something cheap on a Disco for once!
Got very close to buying a new D4 HSE last week, apparently the rear A/C is no longer fitted. Rusty plumbing issue resolved then....

You can tell easily if your LR has rear aircon fitted. Row two passengers have an overhead controller, fan speed, temperature and vent control panel. It is part of the courtesy/reading light cluster. Alternatively, open the boot, remove the plastic panel on the left and there is a fan unit installed.

Cheap rarely means good
I suspect all you will get for that money is a quick regas which does absolutely cock-all about the root cause of why your system does not work and there could be many reasons for that - a leak being but one of them. I would pay the liitle bit extra and go to a specialist and get it serviced properly.
Personally speaking, I wouldn't let a Krapp Fitt fitter anywhere near my car Now an ex-D3 owner after 7 happy years. Miss the car but not the big bills
A bit OT. My aircon has not been working for a while.Had it regassed last summer when I first bought it at 64000 miles.
Worked for a while then come early spring nada.
Anyway went to harwoods hove where the diagnosis....after adding dye to system, corrosion pinholes from off road activity and underside not properly washed afterwards.....air con pipes to be replaced + 6hr fit £1,491 please.
Alas I found the gold plated diamond encrusted pipes a wee bit expensive.
Got a second opinion from the local Merc repair shop(dont ask).
They rang Harwoods to ask how many aircon systems on car as no sign of leak after their blue dye infused test.
Harwoods says 1.
Merc repair shop, call later to re check just the one systam, this time after a more thorough check Harwoods says 2.
Merc repair shop put in an extra 300ml of refrigerant and Hey Presto....back to cool climate.Cost £120 for all the fannying round.Never been so grateful to pay a bill.

Exactly the symtoms I had. Yes it was the pipes that run front to back (rear AirCon) cost me £370 to get it fixed on a 2006my. Had to remove N/S suspension to get at the pipes hence the price. Lasted about a week then had to have new seals in another couple of pipe joints, seems a weakness in many D3's.
