Hi bigtam,
Yes you do, just hold the EPB lever down as you turn off the ignition.
Best Wishes,
Peter

interesting Q's about the phone. I keep mine eith in my jacket pocket hanging behind the drivers seat, on the ledge infront of the sat nav screen or in the cup holder areas etc down by the EPB swtich : Never had a problem.
I guess like anything they need to elimnate possible causes as well as identify causes.
well done Al , as soon as I get an EPB failure I'll be filling in a report Duncan

Emailed off my form to VOSA, whilst my situation was not exactly dangerous, the EPB locked on in a single track road as I was leaving with a horse trailer. I met a vehicle coming up and needed to reverse just a few yards. Locked on screaming EPB prevented any movemnt in the lane for 20 minutes until I removed the key and allowed the system to reset.
That was a few weeks ago. sometimes it is ok ... sometimes its screams. Came across this forum , so much info, thanks all... will have a good look!

Search for "Bodsy's Brake Bible" on the forum and adjust it using the procedure in there, that will cure the screaming. If you can't do it yourself, take the instructions to a local independent garage and ask them to do it.
If you let it scream frequently it will destroy the motor that applies the handbrake.

Mine is a pain.
It has been back 3 times to be adjusted because it either squeals or fails to engage.
I wouldn't use it, but it engages automatically when you turn the ignition off
Also, can anyone tell me why it only squeals in low range, but not high? wtf would that make a difference?? D3 2.7tdv6 SE Manual - SOLD

I had a sqealer about three years ago but my EPB has never seized. The dealer fixed it FOC and it has never been a problem since. Once in a while I'll think I hear a peep from it but if I apply the brakes and press the EPB release it goes away. Several times a year I take my D3 to the local car wash and ask for the under cariage wash just to keep everything clean down there.

Read with anticipation since my locked handbrake blocking the whole family's cars in the driveway.
But the thread seems to stop at 7 pages.
Thanks

I've had my D3 for 2 years now and I very rarely apply the epb as when I do it squeals like hell but has only done it on and off when I have been using it but never had it come on whilst driving. I read on another site whilst looking for a guide on how to solve this problem that it can be a brake sensor that's worn that causes the squeal could anyone help? My D3 is an auto and I leave it in P all the time since the squealing started.

Could be that it needs re-calibrating. The procedure is in Bodsy's brake bible.
There is also a company here in SA (Landyworx in JHB) that makes an improvement to the standard mechanism, if I remember correctly some of the cheap and nasty bits are replaced by some brass bits.

Too late I think. Sorry read the thread but I think i'm past all that. Any help appreciated.

The screech is usually just a DIY readjustment job, if you catch it early. If you let it squeal it will become very expensive. In the interim do not use the handbrake. As you have a manual you will have to hold the switch down when removing the key to prevent the auto-apply.
I am as sick as a parrot right now. My handbrake was screeching for some time. Over the past couple of days it quietened down but went out to drive away and the handbrake will not release. Tried the manual option ...cable but no joy. Disconnected the battery but no joy. I fear I am too late. Any suggestions.

The emergency release cable beneath the handbrake lever panel has to be pulled VERY hard, use a hook type tool or the standard jack handle and yank it to the point of destruction, it should release.
After its free get the wheels off and look here
http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic25409.html
and at Bodsys brake bible in the Wiki to service and adjust.
IF the EPB module has jammed on Disco_Mikey on here has a 'How-to' on removing the cover of the module and re-latching the cables, could well save you a fortune.
You don't say if yours is manual or Auto but if you get it released the WIKI tells you which fuse to remove to avoid 'auto engage' of the EPB until you get it fixed.
Good luck and don't give up!
