Window Lift Relay located where?

I have some wiring diagrams in my gallery that say and show that a power window lift relay is located in the Central Junction Box (CJB). This I understand to be the fuse and relay mounting panel behind the lower glove box, (hopper) just above the passenger footwell.

When I look at the panel, I see three relays and space for two future relays, R2, and R4.

R1, the big relay near the top, is for the Accessory power connectors and the relay you remove and jump if you want power available all the time.

R3, a smaller relay, is for the actual 15 amp cigarette lighter power receptable in the front console.
R5, is for the Infotainment system.

In 3's with the power folding mirrors, there is another separate brown coloured relay, (not located in the fuse panel), in a harness nearby but readily visible.

What I do not see is anything that looks like a window relay.

The wiring diagrams I have in my gallery call the window relay up as Relay R143 and show it as located in/near the CJB so can someone tell me where it is, and I guess what it looks like, as both are a mystery to me. I also cannot find any parts callup of a window lift relay so it all has me puzzled.

It is relay R143 in the CJB but there are 2 other relays located in the window driver unit in both front doors.

Thank You!
Whitch one on the picture? I've located those three.
My problem is that none of my rear windows is working. It's no voltage on the fuse 17 and 31.

Appreciate any help!

It's an EP1 shape according to the diagram, so that will make it the big square one.

Easiest way to check is to feel for the click when operating the front switches.

Any voltage on fuse 30 which also comes from that relay and/or the front windows working correctly?

There are no window lift relays.

Yes, that is the sad news - there is no window lift relay as we know them. By that I mean no rectangular black thing, big or small, that can be removed. The relay is built into the Central Junction Box printed circuit board and is not removable.

Operation of the relay is controlled by the CJB. When energized, the window lift relay provides a feed to fuse 17P, fuse 30P, and fuse 31P. Fuse 30P (C0585) provides a feed to the passenger door window motor (C0741) on a GU wire.

Fuse 31P (C0585) provides a feed to the drivers door window switch (C0343) on a GU wire. Fuse 17P (C0585) provides a feed to the drivers door window switch (C0343) on a GN wire.

So it listed as an EP1 form factor in the workshop electrical manual but is actually internal to the junction box - weird. Not sure what LR were thinking there by putting a moving component internal to the junction box. The CJB can be replaced if required and fettled with a MSV2 or similar.

It has got me wondering what the EP1-shaped-box is on the CJB, anyone know?

The diagrams have the following CJB relays:

Window Lift R143 - RL13 EP1
Infotainment R249 - RL5 Micro
Cigar Lighter R132 - RL3 Micro
Accessory Socket R203 - RL1 Mini

My front windows are working fine. Is the window lift relay okay then or can it fail for the back windows?

The relay provides power for all of them. If some windows are ok then the relay is fine and your fault lies elsewhere.

Are you testing for voltage when the switch is made?

I've not tested it when the switch is made. I'll check that tomorrow. Thank You Robbie!

Update: Bypassed the window lift relay and then it worked fine. The relay is defect.

Hi, that's some days ago, but I think it was like this:

- Pull out the fuses nr 7 and nr 17.
- stretch a wire from the battery side (I think left side) of fuse nr 7 to the switch-side (out of CJB/right side) of fuse nr 17
- ignition on
- use RH rear window switch down (either from drivers switch or RH rear door switch)

Hope this was understandable.

I've got my new CJB, but have not got it installed yet, so I don't know for sure if it's CJB that's the problem.

Rear windows won't lift / dead

My rear windows are dead, i checkt all the fuses, the doorswitches... they seem to be ok.
The front windows are working fine.

Is there anyone who has a picture and locationpicture of the lift relay?

Regards,
Glenn

I have taken out the entire CJB and put it back in position using contact spray on the plugs and sockets of the wiring harness (4x)

When assembled, every window worked fine for a few weeks...

NOW, the rear windows are dead again! frustrating.

The plugs normally can't come out becouse of a locking system, so I asume that it's not a bad contact there....

Is the R1 Realay that is plugged in on the CJB a standard relay that can be easy changed or not?

Do I have to start searching for an other CJB?

Greets,
Glenn
