New TSB issued yesterday - LA204-008 Discovery 3/LR3 - Uneven Tire Wear (unfortunately LRs US masters seems to have influenced the spelling of tyre) Vin range: 5A300259-6A403382
Summary:
A customer may report a concern of uneven tire wear.
Cause: Certain vehicles may experience a degree of 'bush settle' after the initial geometry setting following production (this has now been compensated for using calculated geometry settings introduced from the VIN above). This 'bush settle' may change the geometry settings to outside of normal tolerance and may increase tire wear. This issue is not experienced on all vehicles and the toe sensitivity may be attributed to other factors.
Action: Should it become necessary to adjust vehicle geometry due to specific complaints of tire wear, it should be set to the dimensions detailed in this bulletin. For all other cases requiring geometry setting, the dimensions in the workshop manual should be used.

This is fantastic! Only today I was thinking about this, as I changed my 17 inch tyres for the 19's.
The right rear 17 has done 10k ish, and is nearly 3/4 worn on the inside edge.
I had this on the first set of tyres, and LR refused to check the alignment as my car had 25000 miles at the time.
This TSB makes no mention of miles, and I can show them my tyre as evidence.
I'm off to the dealer again tomorrow  Silver TDV6 HSE

This is very timely! I just took my LR3 in for service to repair some wear and tear and do the "Service Action" stuff. I requested they adjust the rear wheel alignment and they said no. Any misalignment was likely due to my use of the vehicle off road (it is a bit dinged up I must admit).
I said rubbish, it's not dinged equally on both independantly suspended wheels, and this is a well documented issue and I am under the milage cutoff. Now I have this very handy TSB. I will NOT be buying new tires this year methinks! I will have my alignment fixed properly by Land Rover.

Would this apply to my LR3 in the USA? How do I get LandRover to fix because I have been fighting with them for 2 weeks and they are denying that it is their responsibility.

yes it will, just make a note of the TSB number above and take it to your dealer.
I have had this issue and LR have replaced my tyres even after 30000 miles. 2004 TDV6 HSE Auto Zambezi Silver

ok so we have identified a problem but given the variety of mileages/time we owners have run ,what do you think our best approach is? do i tell my dealer that the fault i raised and the re alignment they have just done with the enhancement demonstrates a factory error and i therefore claim my 4 new Pirrelli Scorpions with immediate effect?? TDV6 HSE Buckingham Blue and still smiling

I did exactly that... the ones that were remved were 'legal' but wouldnt have lasted much longer, and had worn unevenly on the flat part too.
HAving admitted the tyres had been worn abnormally they only had one option replace them, 2004 TDV6 HSE Auto Zambezi Silver

Whilst my car was in at the dealership yesterday for a new height adjustable seat belt mounting (old unit would not stay in position) I mentioned that my nsf front tyre was badly worn on the outside edge. They checked this and told me that the osf tyre was also badly worn on the inside edge. They rang me last night to say that they needed to keep the car overnight so they could set the geometry up correctly. Asked about the tyres and they said they were not sure whether LR would pay for new ones  - they better as my car has ony done 5500 miles  I couldnt see any damage on the rear tyres but I will check them again when I get my D3 back. Zambezi Silver TDV6 HSE, Privacy glass, Side steps and Maxxraxx 5 Bike carrier.

Picked my D3 up this morning, they have had to adjust the geometry as per the TSB but wont entertain swapping the tyres as the tread only varies between 5 & 6 mm from one side to the other (on all 4). They did however say they would look again if the wear got worse - both front tyres are scrubbed on inside and outside edge. Zambezi Silver TDV6 HSE, Privacy glass, Side steps and Maxxraxx 5 Bike carrier.

new scorpions (19") being fitted today at kwik-fit (4 for 3 offer, outstanding) do i keep the worn ones as evidence as i pursue my concern about premature wear or bite the bullet on the basis that 21000 miles is acceptable wear rate for mixed driving conditions? TDV6 HSE Buckingham Blue and still smiling

I would say 21k is not very good at all. Definitly keep them and pursue LR for compemsation IMO.

LR payed for my new set at about 27K miles, if the inner edge wernt worn they would likely have made 40K+ 2004 TDV6 HSE Auto Zambezi Silver

So maybe the best course of action is to 'log' the issue with the dealer today only to return back when the inner edges are so worn that the tyres need to be changed. At this point you can remind them about the logged issue and claim your free replacement tyres!!
