Hey all, getting back to the fuel consumption, I'm getting between 20 and 23 mpg most weeks just driving round town and to / from work Confused , but stick her on the motorway with the cruise at 70, and I get around 30mpg, going up to 33ish when all the kids / luggage aren't in the rear end!

All in all, v. happy with my TDV6 HSE - used to have a Jag X-Type 2.5SE Auto - that also sucked when it came to fuel consumption! Laughing

Our Beetle gets nearly 50mpg from a 1.9TDi - I know it's a smaller car, but I am really impressed with it's acceleration / consumption.

My partners last car, a Peugeot 307 HDi D-Turbo was a screamer - 2.0 diesel - 110bhp, doing nearly 50mpg and <almost> as fast off the line as my Jag Wink

Don't forget the D3 is nearly 2.7 tonnes of vehicle and only has 0.8 bigger engine. The Beetle is possible just marginally over 1 tonne, therefore pro rata the D3 is actually better. The D3 has somewhat different tyres and configuration and gearing, beaing able to cruise on a motorway with other cars, yet tow a 3.5 tonne trailer the next minute or trundle over the worst terrain the next minute.

Don't compare the D3 with any other vehicle, it is not possible in anyway what so ever.

If you are spending upwards of 35k on wheels fuel figures should be the last of our worries Laughing My old D2 auto was lucky to do 23 mpg on a run Sad and you still needed ear defenders... A round trip from Wales last week 650 miles with an average speed of 48 mph gave me 28 mpg very very happy Very Happy You want an RX8 1.3 231 hp 18 mpg Laughing Still they are both worth it Very Happy

Good point! I'll try that tack next time my partner mentions the fuel economy issue!

Doing my first <Green Lane> this weekend - really looking forward to it! Just hope the suspension holds out! In the garage at the moment undergoing investigation - I'm getting the same intermittent fault that it appears lots of others are! (But that's for another thread Very Happy )

I am not sure I totally agree there, because economy is a very good thing even if it is just for the pocket. I am not a conservationist, even though I should be perhaps, but we are running short of natural elements, so it helps there.

Some people buy the car because they really want one and maybe not able to afford the fuel as some of us are able to. Many Series Landy enthusiasts do exactly that. In reality, the car for its weight is not bad as present day standards go if driven sensibly.

I am in favour of economy in any vehicle, even a moped.

I can only liken your MPG figures to the two diesel mercs I've had but it can take up to 40K for the engine to loosen up and MPG to improve.

Just to throw the cat amongst the pigeons, I went to fill up my TDV6 Auto at Asda a week or two ago, and without thinking plonked some (about 10 litres) unleaded in by mistake Rolling Eyes . I then filled the tank with diesel, and immediately drove about 200 miles from North Wales to London. The computer recorded about 27mpg, which was great compared to my usual 21.7mpg motorway driving. Having filled up several times since then, it's back to 21.7mpg. Any comments? (about the mpg, not me being a lemon)

....errrrrrrrrmmm, let me think about this, .........no.
But I'd love to know why I got such a result.
Probably something to do with a sensor somewhere.

Morning Guys,
Just following on from the fuel issue I've now cleaered 11,000+ miles since July 05 and currently averaging 28.9, in fact its down from 29.5 since the cold weather. But at least the heater warms up quicker than my last D2, shame about the smell from the "central heating boiler"!!
The D3 is HE Auto TDV6, covers a mixture of city, local and motorway stuff and it tows the 2 ton of wifes horses etc. Its feul consumption is better than her 53 plate Defender and my old (04) D2. So based on this I can't really complain. Anyway, living in Solihull is very easy for me to make fuss i just talk to the neighboughs, most of them work at Lode Lane.

Disco2 TD5 HSE economy..

I am looking to upgrade to the TDV6..as we need 7 adult sized seats, but our current 04 plate TD5 HSE gets around 23mpg [ has 28,000kms on the clock] ...so I believe the TDV6 has better performance..the TD5 does a leisurely 17 secs 0 - 100kph, whats the TDV6 do ?

Regards
