how does the piston hit the injector ?????? when its unplugged it just stops the fuel surely
ive changed all my injectors over from my other D3 last weekend (the engine i took from sounds v nice ) and guess what i still have the exact noise he has before i changed themMetal auto sump & fluid change (3 hrs)
LR door puddle projectors (10 mins)
Tinted Bonnet wind deflector (10 mins)
All Intercooler pipes and Tbolts (2hrs)
3 injectors replaced so far (30mins)
Sunroof drain pipes both sides 2.5 hrs)

Im only repeating what professionals have stated in previous posts, something to do with how the tip of the injectors operate, think of valves and timing. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I’ve read the post your referring too, I can understand a injector being damaged but the engine I don’t get it And I’m no noviceMetal auto sump & fluid change (3 hrs)

Did mystify me as well about injector hitting piston.
I've pulled connectors off the injector loads of times to see which injector may be faulty or misfiring and never had any mechanical problem as a result.

Daft question if i may plse
Could an injector fail in such a way to pump diesel into the bore and therefore hydrolock it
Yeh i know , am getting good at asking daft questions

Correct again Gary, and very far from a daft question. Hydraulic lock can bend a con rod or perhaps even break a crank!!yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Hi buddy
Many thks
ref injectors leak back test , is that normally carried out to ensure they are not letting by , have heard about using ultrasonic machines to clean them
I did hydrolock my old company van many years ago , oh and one of my series 3s
Another reason the deepest I would ever go is up to the sills in the D3
Thks as always and this finds u well

All well thanks Gary! Never yet had the misfortune to hydraulic lock an engine. That said, had it happen to me after a few too many pints of Guinness though yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

The one thing I didn’t do when I done cam belt is change the rear belt wonder if it’s worth changing
I have had the same issue with my daughters Disco 3. sounds like 1 hydraulic tappet, the rear inlet tappet had no oil pressure all remaining 23 tappets were solid. I changed all 24, unfortunately the noise was the same. I replaced cam belt, tensioners, idler pulley, fuel pump drive belt and tensioner.
I also questioned cam timing and ended up loosening the starter and reset , very slightly out, no change noise is the same, I am not sure the timing change between the cams could sound like this and am going to have the injectors tested next week. I have been told with common rail you cam get damp/ pooling on the end of the injector which can cause pre ignition , and if I accelerate when the engine is cold it does sound like all injectors are noisy. ( 40 +years in motor sport, I dont normally use any power until an engine is fully warm) I did flush the engine oil and had 2 new oil filters I carefully opened one up looking for any evidence of bearing failure, nothing at all. I have done another 500 mile since with out any change the noise is the same, this is not normal and develop when my daughter was towing a trailer over 250 miles. I will up date after the injectors are tested.

What mileage is on th car? It could be the oil pump as they do loose pressure as mileage rises.
Perhaps a pressure test might be worthile!yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ
