It's easy to get obsessed about car park dings, I know because I've been there myself. Trouble is it only ends up ruining your enjoyment of the car - the worry, the constant vigilance. I've now trained myself not to care so much and life is so much better. Obviously I'll still take the normal precautions of where I park and who next to, but I'm determined not to worry. And guess what... less dings!
I now work on the principle that if it costs me £150 once a year to get 'chips away' to come around and knock them all out, it's money well spent. I don't have to buy 'chitty chitty bang bang' wings (steps) and I can get on and properly enjoy the vehicle. No point owning a nice vehicle if your scared of leaving it anywhere?

My local Sainsbury's have removed all their recycling containers and left several marked bays almost twice the width of normal ones, guess where I will be parking in future.Displaced Yorkshireman.

I usually park pretty far out...no issues, knock on wood. This is a small area too, so parking lots seldom are full. I hate when I just pull through a space and someone parks behind me and I have to pull forward to open the tail gate.17 Discovery 5 HSE Si6, Fuji White on brown | 07 LR3 SE 4.4 Java Black on Alpaca

Just to prove the point, it happened again yesterday. Parked in a large car park to attend a funeral. No bays marked out but a huge space with parking for 50ish cars. Parked up nicely in a clear area, probably enough room for 5 cars each side of me, then little old dolly blue rinse parks right next to me in her Korean/Vietnamese/Malaysian 3 pot tin box. Three attempts to get out her drivers door before she finaly contacted my passenger door. As you would expect, she then started to rub her door edge to make sure it wasnt damaged, then toddled off. I had to move to let SWMBO out.
I was going to hook the car to my tow bar and drag it between two industrial waste bins so theat no one would be able to get in or out of it but was told to behave myself. Man with no D3 anymore, but cant leave the forum....how sad.

Parking spaces. Try Australia, they are ridiculously narrow. To say everyone drives big 4x4's there isn't enough room to turn without going onto the wrong side of the car park. My local shopping centre has a couple of extra large bays (Not by design) I park in them when I can, but some muppet nearly always parks over the line so I still need a can opener to get in may car.
I watched one old duck scrape his car the full length of another car whilst he was parking. He got out, inspected his car, wiped it with a cloth, then left a note on the other cars windscreen. I thought, "Good on him, at least he's left his details". He then drove off and parked somewhere else. I went to the note to leave my details on there too, I read his note, it just said, "Touched your car when parking, never mind." No details on it. I recorded his reg though.2005 4.0L SE. Many years ago I drove a Lightweight, which still had military bumpers on. A non male driver (trying to be PC correct here) swung into the parking space next to me, and grazed her wing along the bumper. We both got out and looked the damage. I had a bit of Hammerite missing, she had a headlamp smashed and dented wing. Okay thought I, then she started on at me that it was all my fault as I shouldnt park a Land Rover in a parking bay for a car.....Man with no D3 anymore, but cant leave the forum....how sad.
