Mine's just developed this fault too - EPB amber light and no gear indication/ reverse lights. I'll try the low range reverse trick, but as I'm out of warranty does anyone have an idea what it's likely to cost if I have to get sensors and modules replaced?Previously:

Did the calibration trick (low range, reverse, etc) and it's been OK this afternoon, so hopefully it was a one off. Yet again this site saves the day Previously:

Did you use low ratio? Should only take about 200 metres. I know it's almost impossible in high range [/quote]
HI I have same problem. The screen only tells you when you are in neutral then when going through the gears it will blink 4th 5th and disappear. Car is due a service which has had full lsh but due to current financial i cannot warrant payying the money. Is there any other way to get rid of this? Thanks in advanceTDv6 S 7 seat

Have you tried
On a long straight quiet stretch of road
Turning off ignition
Wait until (P) on dash extinguishes.
Restart ignition , select low box
Engage reverse
Reverse whilst also keeping an eye on gear indicator
When R appears ..... stop
Engage First .... drive until 1 appears
Engage Second ..... drive until 2 appears
Repeat up through 3,4,5 until 6 th & 6 appears
Stop... Neutral..... Ignition off ..... wait until (P)extinguishes
Ignition on
Change back to High Box
Should be ok now
Someone correct me..its been a while since I did this and am not sure if all the (P) malarky has to be done

Symptoms were that gear indication is lost - then you get a message "Park brake Autorelease failed". It also means you lose rear PDC and reversing lights because the car doesn't know it's in reverse.
The first time LRA came out they upgraded some some software. This seemed to cure it....for a while. The second time the LRA guy took me for a drive and showed me the 'recallibrating' sequence detailed by DW above. This worked but he also told me that if it happens again it meant the sensor needed replacement and I should take it to a dealer.
The next day it happened again, and no amount of recalibrating would get it to work properly - gear indication was intermittent, especially in first and reverse.. Eventually it came good of it's own accord.
The car visited the dealer for this and some other points. Unfortunately I got what seems to be the standard reply from my dealer "No fault found" - so they did nothing.Too much intellectual firepower can damage your common sense.

That was genius, thank you very much
Saw the amber park brake fault and thought "hello, here we go". Hadn't noticed until a couple of days later that the gear indication was very slow as well.
I asked a work colleague who does transmission ECU stuff (for the Veyron amongst others) what exactly an XY sensor was - apparently the sensor which detects which shift rail you are on and which way the shift yoke is going - ie where in an "XY" sense inside the gearbox the shifter is.
While I am posting on here, anybody recommend, in the Sussex area a) an LR main dealer who is vaguely reasonable, b) an independent specialist.
Thanks for the tip

Appeared home tonight and found D3 in drive with bricks in front of front wheels - hmm that looks expensive!!
Yellow park brake light came on tonight whilst partner was driving home, she checked up manual and it says to contact dealer and securely park vehicle. Quick browse of forum and found the fix detailed in this thread - recailibrate sensor - took two goes but worked a treat. Don't know how much it saved me and for how long but thanks for the fix....

I just wanted to say that having finally managed to buy my first Disco3 a month ago, I had the EPB amber fault light come on within a couple of weeks, and the auto-release function stopped working.
Panic initially ensued, especially when I saw how much a new EPB module was !
But having found this thread via the magic of Google and applying the remedy, all is well, so thank you DiscoStu for posting the solution originally
