I wasn't there (had to call off) and that makes me the same as Mr Green Laner. A BYSTANDER.
This thread reminds me so much of another thread about the use of the Corrieyairack Pass a couple of years ago. I'm with you TFC.
Politics of envy has transcended the lentil munching tree huggers and now any fecker with a series motor wants to have a go at the 'posh' disco3 brigade. Well, feck-off mr Laner. Only difference between you and us is that we will make and pay for the repairs to allow you to continue to play and moan at us for the damage. Get a life and go to a pub to discuss shim clearances over a real ale. _________________ _________________

I am happy to come and help repair any lane which needs repairing and prepared to travel from Bristol to do so a round trip inc accomodation in excess of £300, and Im sure many others on this forum are also happy to do so. we all have the same interests and objectives. So, if someone local is prepared to organise it, lets start a sign up and stop each other off.
we all make mistakes now and again. We need to ALL stick together or we will all end up having to walk the lanes _________________ Duncan

Duncan, I don't believe any mistake was made,
does this 'voluntary' restriction have any legal standing? I doubt it.... Seems to me it's there purely to allow people with far to much time on their hands to discuss things for far to long instead of actually doing anything about it....
I'd be more than happy to assist in maintaining this lane to ensure it's sustainability for ANY driver - although there are plenty more in the UK that also deserve this level of attention so don't let's focus on this ONE lane for too long eh? _________________

Thank you. Firstly, under what 'authority' do you make this request?
Secondly, i'm not aware of any anti-4x4 group using web images to further their cause, If this has happened, please provide evidence so the web site administrator can take a measured view on the 'risks'
thirdly and finally.... FECK OFF _________________

Iain, I agree. At the time there were no notices. We stopped at the end of the lane and made a special point of reading the signage. Mrs DD then relayed the sign to the rest of the group, ie drive slowly, miond the sheep, no more than 4 vehciles, give way to others etc.
However, if there is a restriction on the lane then we shouldn't have been there. Thats very easy to say and to criticise in hindsight and there should have been permanent signs. Its worht noting that if someone has deliberatly removed a road sign then that is in fact a criminal offence.
however, moving on, if the hole needs repairing in order to keep the lane open for all to enjoy then we should help.
Just to set the record staright, we did not TRASH the lane as suggested in the other forums, 1 car got stuck. that was recovered and the remaing vehciles turned around so as not to damage the surrounding ground and worsen the hole.
it was obvious that others that had travelled the lane on previous occasions hadnt been so considerate as there were tyre track/ruts that bypass the hole and created a second hole in the trench alongside. _________________ Duncan

I would like to add the fact that the three of us came up to the hole from both ends. At neither end did we see a sign saying not to use the road. When we got to the hole second side we did actually spend some time clearing the drain to the side in an effort to reduce the water levels in order to reduce any further damage from water flowing into the hole. Had we known this sort of storm would take place after the event, we might even have taken pictures of our efforts before and after showing the difference moving a few rocks around could achieve.

don't forget that all this GLASS - 'only four vehicles' stuff is only a guideline, if there are 20 vehicles going over the same ground in a day, does it REALLY matter if there are 1 x 20 vehicle convoy or 5 x 4 vehicle convoys?
what evidence is there that the signs were there in the first place? _________________

Greenlaner if you knew about the VR on the said lane would it not have been wise to inform RPJ or anyone else for that matter? _________________ Pain is just weakness leaving the body
